If you have any room left in your stomach the day after our wedding we highly recommend Reading Terminal! The indoor market opened in 1893 and offers an incredible selection of locally grown & exotic produce, locally sourced meats, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, and a wide variety of restaurants.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the cultural centers of the city. The museum features a mix of contemporary and classic pieces and exhibitions, so there's something for everybody. But perhaps the most iconic part of the museum isn't indoors. The "Rocky Statue" recreates the iconic movie scene from Rocky when Sylvester Stallone posed at the top of the famous museum steps.
Includes Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were adopted, and of course the Liberty Bell, one of the great symbols of our freedom and independence - plus much more. Independence Beer Garden is across the street from the Liberty Bell and a great place to sit outside when the weather is nice and have a few drinks. Old City is an extremely walkable area in the City. A Saturday for us may be walking past the Liberty Bell and looking at it through the glass, walking around Independence Hall, grabbing a drink (or a few) at Independence Beer Garden and venturing down Market Street toward the river for some food. Additionally, the Bourse Building was recently completely renovated and houses about 30 different food and drink vendors, which have everything from fried chicken to pasta, cheesesteaks, tacos, dumplings and more.
Philadelphia is known for cheesesteaks, right? Well this place is our absolute favorite. It is a little off the beaten path and takes more time to get to than say..... Pat's or Geno's..... but it is worth it!
Am I allowed to put a speak easy on a public website? I hope so. Hop Sing is a speak easy in China Town where you enter from a very nondescript, unmarked gray gated door. There is a dress code (no shorts, no sneakers, no jeans - although not always enforced) and they have a VERY strict no cell phone policy inside (seriously, don't try it. You will be kicked out and put on their banned list). I've been told another way to land yourself on the banned list is if you leave shi**y tips. So if your date is turned away at the door...you've been warned. When you see a random line of people seeming to go nowhere, you've found it. Once inside they give you the whole run down about cellphones and take you into a great space with even better drinks! This is also in the heart of Chinatown so grab some dinner before or after.
