Our love story started in the most awkward way. I was trying to escape Indiana and move to California right before we had met each other. My father, who worked with John, decided that he wanted to play match maker and bugged me about meeting him when I came home for the holidays in 2018. I was hesitant at first because I really was not looking to date anyone at the time, especially someone who was from my hometown area. After several attempts of my father asking me to text him, I finally agreed to get his number and send him a message. But once I got his number, I still wasn't sure, so it took me a few days to text him. On October 4, 2018, I finally decided that I was going to shoot him a hello, and right as the message was sending, he had sent me a message at the exact same time. We started talking almost every day and agreed to meet each other when I came home for Thanksgiving. What I didn't know until the day that we met was that not only was I going to meet him for the first time, but I was also going to meet his entire family as well. It was the most untraditional way of meeting someone for the first time face to face. John was so quiet and barely said anything when we first met, and I think I talked to his family more than I did him that first night. At first, I didn't think he liked me because he was so quiet but as all of you know that's just who his is. After that night we talked every single day and January 31, 2019, we decided to take a chance at love. After a year and a half of dating long distance, I moved to Michigan so I could be with him every day. Then right when the world closed down because of Covid-19 in March of 2020, he decided to propose to me in our tiny studio apartment. It definitely wasn't the usual extravagant proposal that you see on movies or posted on social media but our love has been untraditional since the beginning. It was perfect because it was us. Here's to our happily ever after!
