Our story began in September 2018—two 18-year-olds meeting for the first time in a freshman seminar class for psychology at New Mexico Highlands University. Thanks to Professor Leon Bustos, who also happens to be the officiant of our wedding, we got to know each other through an icebreaker activity he organized. It was Soleil who approached Jaylen first, asking if he played an instrument. His response? “Trumpet.” And from that moment, the rest was history!
