How We Met

S&DCeleration2019

The story began in June 2014 in California. Sokunthea had just moved from New York while Dylan moved from San Diego to Orange County. After two months of being committed to their new careers and trying to make new friends, they chose social media as an easy way to connect with people. Upon discovering one another, the two exchanged messages and eventually decided to meet on August 20, 2014 in Huntington Beach. Things seemed very natural that evening. The beach was dark, so they pretended to be guests at the Hyatt hotel, snuck into the fire pit area and watched “The Three Stooges” on Dylan’s phone. They stayed until Dylan’s stomach screamed for food, then went their separate ways. About a month later, Sokunthea decided to move to LA for school. In between moving, Dylan let her stay with him. Neither of them expected anything to go too far, considering their tight schedules and distance apart during the early stage of their relationship. They made it work. Dylan would sneak into her apartment with coconuts and roses to surprise her when she returned from work. She also drove to Orange County to surprise him and cook him dinner while he was at school. Those surprises became the beauty of their long-distance beginning. Soon they became increasingly creative with their surprises. For example, Dylan once left a trail of flowers leading up the stairs to her place at night, and Sokunthea would knocked on his door when he was not expected. Six months later, Dylan relocated for work. Moving in together seemed like a good option once again. This move turned out to be the best decision they ever made. Both of them expanded the family by adopting a dog “Jackson” and a kitten “Jessy.” After four years together, he proposed to her in front of his family in San Diego leading to the new beginning of their life together. Please join them to celebrate their beautiful journey.
