How We Met - Sokieu's Story

Sokieu Wouldn't Accept Anthony's Friend Request

We both started at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2014. Anthony was being friendly and added all of our classmates on Facebook. Since Anthony never spoke to me in person, I did not accept his friend request... for 2 YEARS. Fast forward to our last year in school when we were placed into a clinic group together and I teased him for his "wireless" headphones that still had wires on them. Anthony kept denying my invitation to get lunch (as friends) with our group. I later find out that he kept saying no because he did not want to get "friend-zoned". After weeks of group happy hours and drinks, we finally went on a first date. Anthony was a gentleman, he walked me home that night... but only to the CORNER. I called him out for not walking me ALL the way home... what if I got robbed or kidnapped? Well, he walked me to my front door and that was the beginning of our forever. I know forever with Anthony means he will selflessly give me the top half of an everything bagel (with ALL the seasonings) and the better over-easy eggs (because we inevitably pop 50% of the yolks). I know forever with Anthony means that I will feel strong with everything that I do because he constantly encourages me to be the baddest B in town. ... and after almost 4 years of long distance & countless FaceTime calls... we are so excited to start our forever!

The Proposal - Anthony's Story

July 25, 2020

Sokieu is truly an amazing person. One of the most treasured things I love about Sokieu is her smile, it always manages to lift my spirits. She also has this supernatural ability to establish a connection with each and every person. I knew she was the one I wanted to share my life with when one day I saw her smiling from across the room. I saw her gorgeous smile, beautiful shining dark hair, and heard her wonderful laugh. Suddenly, that moment became silent and slow, she was the only person in my sight. The rest would become the proposal. The day before the proposal I picked up a camera from my sister Rachel, drove to Philadelphia, picked up Sokieu at her house, and dropped off the camera to my brother Joe. Sokieu is an amazing investigator, so I needed to outsmart her and Joe knew the same. So instead of dropping off a “care package” I was really dropping off a camera so that he could take pictures for Rachel's family pictures. Come to find out she did think this was suspicious or at least strange. The morning of the proposal I wanted it to be as normal as possible. We made breakfast and studied until the afternoon. I informed my brother we would meet him at Elfreth's Alley at 5:30pm. Now, I knew I could not conceal the ring in its box, she would definitely see it in my pocket. The ring was not secure in my pocket with my hand on it the entire walk through center city Philadelphia. We had drinks and finally met Joe. I walked down the alley. Joe walked behind trying to take random pictures. It seemed like time was going so fast and my heart was racing. I practiced what I was going to say over and over, but kept forgetting how the words fit together. We turned down another alley, which was very private. We looked around at the flowers, I grabbed her hand, and told her that I would love to walk her home every night forever. I got down on my knee and asked her to marry me. She was so beautiful, and her smile was glowing. She said yes!
