Back in October of 2017, two mutual friends of Asem & Soha, Arsheen Aziz and Ammar Aukhil, helped forge a new relationship. After Arsheen initially told Asem about the amazingness that is Soha, she then asked Soha if she’d be interested in getting to know Asem- she agreed! While living in Richmond, VA, during a medical school rotation, Asem sent Soha a long, dorky introductory text message- for some reason she found it funny! They started talking more & more, day & night. She coached him through interviews, he tutored her through med school lectures. They met in person for the first time in November of 2017 near Thanksgiving- it was love at first sight, after love at first text. They bonded over their mutual affection for Thai food, sushi, & molten lava cake. Soon enough, their families met and they both knew that Asem and Soha were meant to be. They were baath pakki’ed and things progressed smoothly through God’s mercy.

Soha and Asem had some very sentimental places around Downtown Naperville, where they had many formative experiences. Whether it was the location of a conversation or just a moment of vulnerability with one another, they had markers all over town that were forever engraved in their hearts and minds. Asem wanted to use these locations for his scavenger hunt proposal: 1. The parking garage in downtown Naperville where they spent hours talking and getting to know each other. 2. Inside a Justice League comic book representing the first movie they watched together. 3. The local Starbucks Reserve where they shared many coffees and her favorite drink became his too. 4. Le Chocolat, a bakery that they frequented when he was in town to enjoy their molten lava cake. 5. The Dandelion Fountain where he was waiting, on one knee, to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him.

After their baath pakki, Asem & Soha navigated their way through many ups and downs, as well as failures and successes- they had each other’s backs and were by each other’s side every step of the way. On June 17th, 2018, they got nikkah’fied in Chicago and legally became husband & wife. Unfortunately, Asem had to leave right away- residency started on June 20th! Despite their long distance relationship, Asem & Soha’s relationship has grown stronger with each passing day. They have been able to cherish the first few pages of their new marriage & look forward to the coming chapters!
