One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen Itza, is located just 120km away from Mérida. This archaeological site, built by the Mayans, is definitely a must-see during your stay. You can visit Chichén Itzá by car or by taking the Tren Maya, a modern train with multiple schedules for your convenience.
Another, less known but equally impressive Mayan ruin is Uxmal. You can combine the visit with a visit to the Chocolate Museum. Our favorite!
