Sofia and Antonio met at work. Sofia was teaching 9th grade math and Antonio was teaching 11th grade humanities. One Friday after work, Sofia was complaining of a migraine. Still, it was Friday and some teachers decided to go to out for drinks. Happy hour didn't last long as Sofia's headache persisted (short story: she had COVID). Little did Sofia know, though, that as she was driving home, Antonio was sending her an email. The subject was "Book Recs." Antonio was asking Sofia for book recommendations, which he would argue is still an innocent request to this day. Somehow, in the first few weeks of knowing Sofia, Antonio caught onto the fact that she was a big reader. Sofia sent him a couple of book recommendations: The Midnight Library, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, and a couple others. Little did they know that this would be the beginning of their everlasting relationship.
Sofia and Antonio were on a trip to Japan to visit some friends when they got engaged. Sofia had no idea a proposal was coming. The whole purpose of the trip was to see some friends who had been out of the country for the past 5 months, so when the opportunity to go to Japan for Christmas came up, they took it. Little did Sofia know that Antonio was planning an unforgettable proposal all the while they explored beautiful Japan. The proposal itself happened on New Years Eve in the Dotonbori area of Osaka. Sofia was taking pictures with her friend, Greta, while Greta's husband took the photos. Eventually, Antonio swapped in for Greta and while they posed for the camera, Antonio got down on one knee. Sofia was completely shocked, in a good way. Though, Antonio claims she never actually said yes.
