We must start by thanking Match.com! We met via the website and soon began texting and calling each other. We finally met, face-to-face, at Maloney's in Matawan. Joe showed up with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We spent the night drinking beers, trying to find Joe the craft beer that best resembled a Bud Heavy, and eating. After non-stop conversation, we realized we were 2 of the last few patrons as they closed up for the night. What Joe didn't know at that moment was that just two weeks later I would be going into surgery to give my sister a kidney. He stepped up to the plate, after a long day of work in Atlantic City he went home, showered and then began the long ride up to Livingston from Ocean Gate. He took my parents by surprise when he arrived with a bag full of my favorite snacks and spent a good portion of the night with us even though he had to be up at 4:45 am the very next morning. As I enjoyed the Cheez-Its he brought me, he dutifully answered all of my parents questions.
It was our usual Fourth of July on the beach. We had just settled in after unpacking when Joe told me he had a question. Everything he said went in one ear and out the other the minute he dropped to his knee. Clearly, I said yes! Another beach-goer witnessed the moment and came to congratulate us, it was her first time seeing a proposal in person. She snapped a celebratory picture of us and we continued our beach day.
