Sofia's paternal grandfather, Antonio Argibay, was from a small village called Viveiro and his wife, Marina Argibay, was from the city of Lugo, both found in the northern province of Galicia. After the Spanish Civil War, the couple relocated to Havana, Cuba, where they had Sofia’s father, Tony. Tony later lived in Viveiro during his adolescence after leaving Cuba. We are inspired by the beauty, culture, and history Spain has to offer and believe this is a great occasion to have a memorable get-together in a country with such deep significance. Plus, where else could we party till dawn?
The first wedding event takes place on Sunday, August 18th. We advise arriving in the country before this day to allow yourself time to adjust to the time change. Spain is 6 hours ahead of EST.
The weather can get as hot as of 85F during the day and 60F at night. Keep in mind Spain is a dryer climate, so while the sun is strong, its not quite comparable to the humidity of east coast summers in the US. Our ceremony and cocktail hour will be held outdoors while reception will be indoors.
If you are planning on visiting additional places in Spain, we recommend seeing the major cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, or Sevilla, all of which are connected by high speed train (AVE). Madrid is great as a home base, as it has plenty of fantastic day-trips (El Escorial and Segovia). As coastal cities, Barcelona and Valencia are fantastic in the summer, with beautiful quaint beach towns nearby. Reach out to us for help or for recommendations.
For many, there's a certain anxiety to wanting to buy plane tickets as soon as possible. Earlier isn't always better. Round trip tickets to Europe often fluctuate in price, so we recommend setting alerts to follow flight prices. See the travel page for more information.
While gifts are not expected, if you wish to contribute, we have selected a few items for our registry and a honeymoon fund. We highly discourage bringing physical or monetary gifts for your own comfort and safety. Truly, your presence is the most cherished gift as you join us in Spain.
Black-Tie optional: tuxedos and gowns are welcome, as well as suits and cocktail dresses.
Surely. We definitely understand many of our guests may not want to carry formal attire around during their travels. We have two recommendations in Madrid for rentals: Trajes Guzman website: https://www.trajesguzman.com Chaque English website: https://chaqueingles.es
If your invitation says "and Guest," then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.
Children are welcome at the welcome party, though the wedding itself will be adults-only. There will be babysitting/child entertaining staff on the premises for those who wish to travel with their little ones! Please let us know if you are bringing your kids in the weeks prior, their ages, and we will give you some options to make sure they'll be taken care of.
If you are planning on renting a car to drive to the venue, there is plenty of parking available.
Yes, the hotel is wheelchair accessible and the staff is able to transport guests around the grounds on golf carts whenever necessary.
