The Proposal

It was a Friday afternoon in Michael’s favorite city—Auburn, Alabama. In the warm November air, Michael was teaching Sofia how to shoot a bow in the backyard. After a while, they decided they would take one last shot before packing it up for the day. Sofia ran inside and grabbed a small apple, about the size of a golf ball. For a little extra luck, she had Michael kiss the arrow. She pulled back, aimed, and BULLSEYE! That was moment Michael decided he was done sitting on the ring, and that this would be the day he would propose. Michael asked Sofia to go out for a nice dinner, having a plan in mind. Sofia, completely unaware of what he was planning, originally said, “No, the food in Auburn is usually not worth it. I don’t want to go out and get disappointed again.” Not taking no for an answer, Michael told her he was making reservations for 7:30 and asked if she would be ready. Michael picked Sofia up and drove to Opelika. The area was decorated with Christmas lights, and he thought it would make the perfect romantic backdrop for the proposal. They got out of the car, and Sofia grabbed Michael’s hand as they began walking toward the restaurant. Almost immediately she said, “Ew, Michael—why are your hands so sweaty?” Trying to hide the surprise, Michael replied, “I don’t know… I just don’t like driving your car.” To set the mood, Michael walked Sofia over to the square's fountain. If you know Sofia, you know she always has a smart-aleck response ready. Michael announced, “Isn’t this fountain pretty?” and Sofia quickly shot back, “Yeah, all it’s missing is a homeless person picking the pennies out.” Michael laughed while Sofia stood there, waiting to head to dinner—completely oblivious to what was about to happen. Then Michael knelt down on one knee and popped the question! Dinner did not disappoint and the food was great! You all know the rest… we’re getting married!
