While we would love for everyone to be present for our wedding ceremony, we have chosen to have a small, intimate ceremony with only immediate family on September 18, 2020. We invite all our family and friends to join us for a Celebration of Marriage (the real party!). Thank you for your love and support!
We were introduced the night before our good friends, Hallie and Shaun Estle's, wedding, but didn't think much of it. Several days later, Elizabeth sent James a friend request on Facebook. James accepted, and followed it up with a Facebook message. We began talking, and...
After more than 6 weeks of Facebook messaging and talking on the phone every day, we had our first date. We drove around stopping to visit several spots, including Jenness Beach in Rye, New Hampshire. While sitting on the beach, Elizabeth bet James that he wouldn't leave her, so he hopped in his car and left. It only took him about two minutes before he was speeding right back to the parking lot to prove her right.
Over the next 8.5 years, we navigated our relationship through Elizabeth's junior and senior years of high school, and four years of college. James made several job changes: from Sagamore Golf Course, to BR Jones Roofing, to Crown Properties, back to Sagamore Golf Course, and finally Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, all in the pursuit of working hard and finding a job he loved. Elizabeth also had a surprise career change, and chose to pursue real estate shortly after graduating from nursing school. Her biggest advocate was James. In January 2017, we bought our first home: a duplex in Dover, New Hampshire, where we live and are also landlords. Which brings us to...
On an ordinary Saturday in April, we both went to work. By mid-afternoon, this ordinary Saturday turned into one of the most beautiful days of the spring, with sunny skies and a temp of around 75 degrees. Around 4:00pm, Elizabeth suggested they do something to enjoy the nice weather, "Lets go to the beach." James agreed. We drove to Sawyer's Beach in Rye, parked in a permit-only parking area (we didn't have a permit) and went for a walk on the beach. We walked from Sawyer's Beach to Jenness Beach (remember the first date?), and shortly after turning around to walk back, James stopped walking and said "I have a question to ask you." Elizabeth immediately knew what that meant. James got down on one knee and opened the ring box, staring up at Elizabeth. After a few moments, she said "What's the question?" James smiled and said "Will you marry me?" At this point, Elizabeth was laughing almost uncontrollably from excitement (and shock and disbelief), but managed a "Yes!" We are *finally* engaged! And in true James fashion, he didn't plan a single detail!
Choosing the date for our wedding was a no-brainer, and not just because it's easy to remember! We will be getting married on the ten-year anniversary of our first date.
