Kendra was home in York from graduate school due to COVID postponing her program. Brandon was living at home for a few years after graduating as well. We went to "rival" high schools and have always known each other from afar. After a failed dm slide attempt to woo Kendra, Brandon tried again. This time pleading that he could do better. Lucky for us Kendra believes in second chances and we began texting, hanging out, and getting to know each other. During that time we found that we have a lot in common; mutual friends, a love for tequila, a nice night by the fire, and have even crossed paths a time or two... we were in the same preschool class! We both knew how much we loved each other early on. Conversations came easy and we were having so much fun dating, even during COVID 2020 when it was tough to go out. Brandon started a new job and Kendra's Occupational Therapy career was blossoming as well, so we decided to move in together to Harrisburg after 9 months of dating. There was just one person left to woo... Brandon and Millie started their special bond too and the rest was history!
The Wetzel family had a trip to Spain planned for June of 2023 and decided to bring Kendra along for the ride. The trip happened to take place during Kendra and Brandon's 3-year dating anniversary (June 19th). While in Barcelona, Brandon and Kendra had a date night planned, away from the rest of the family, to celebrate their 3 years of dating. Little did Kendra know that Brandon had brought an engagement ring across the world, and secretly booked a photographer to meet them at Parc del Laberint d’Horta. The park was a labyrinth garden maze, in honor of the couple having one of their first dates at a corn maze back in York, PA. After figuring out the maze, they met the photographer who was disguised as a tourist taking pictures for a project. After initially being concerned they were being pickpocketed by said photographer, Kendra agreed to have their pictures taken by this stranger. Brandon fetched the ring out of his very manly satchel and proposed on the spot, with a beautiful sunset haze over the park. The city of Barcelona will always be a dream for us! Special shoutouts in this story include: - Alexis Hartnett, for help finding an awesome photographer! - Justin Wetzel, for sprinting across the city of Barcelona during a heat wave to make sure Kendra had her hair done for the pictures. - Both of our parents for helping in so many ways!
The beach has held a special place in our hearts for the past 4 years. Our times at Stone Harbor, NJ, and Bethany Beach, DE laid a great foundation of memories and love that we will have for a lifetime. When thinking about how we wanted to start our lives together and what our wedding looked like, we kept coming back to an intimate ceremony on a beach. We love all of our friends and extended family more than words can describe, so the decision of not being able to share the day with them was hard! We will be eloping in St. Lucia with just our immediate family by our sides. We know that all of our loved ones will be supporting us from afar and that's all we ask!
