How We Met

Flirting With the Rodeo Queen

Beth was the 2016 Miss NPRA and Dustin was a team roper. Somehow, they both ended up in Grandview, Washington for a rodeo. Beth was in the process of trying to beat a record for the most rodeo performances attended by a Miss NPRA. Dustin thought that when his team roping partner asked him if he wanted to enter Grandview that he meant Grandview, Idaho, a short hour and a half drive. Dustin was surprised to find that they were leaving much earlier to account for a four and a half hour drive. Shoutout to David for dragging Dustin to Washington that day. Dustin and David arrived early and happened to pull in right behind Beth, who was getting ready for the night. Dustin will reluctantly admit to watching Beth get her horse ready that night and being surprised when she went into her tack room as a regular person and came back out as a rodeo queen. As the night progressed, Dustin and Beth just happened to end up standing directly next to one another in a rather small holding area. Beth was talking to another fellow rodeo queen about what classes she was taking in college. Dustin overheard the conversation and managed to butt his way into the conversation. The two managed to find a lot in common in the five minutes they spoke, both having very similar backgrounds in school. After a few minutes, Beth had to go back to work in the arena, so she said, "Nice to meet you. Good luck tonight." Little did she know, that night Dustin searched for the rodeo queen that Beth was talking to that night and asked for her name. That night as Beth was on her way home she called her friend Kayla to tell her about a cowboy who was very chatty that night. As she was on the phone, her phone chimed and she had a facebook friend request from that very cowboy. A few minutes later there was another chime and sure enough it was a message. Their first date was almost exactly one year later when Beth drove to Pasco to watch him at a team roping. And from there... The rest is history.

How He Proposed

Back Where We First Met

Dustin had it all planned out. The rodeo that Beth was going to watch Dustin rope at was the same rodeo that they had met at three years before. After Beth got off work that day Beth, Kaylee and Alli went to get their nails done, and then headed to the rodeo. Before the rodeo, they all sat around the trailer and Dustin kept on telling Beth, "Make sure you video from the in gate." and Beth said, "Yeah, you act like I haven't videoed you a thousand times before." So when the rodeo started Beth, Kaylee, Alli and Teaka made their way to the holding area (by the in gate) to watch the rodeo. When the team roping was finally up, Beth stepped up to the gate to video. Dustin started to head towards the box and the announcer said, "You know, I got to talking to Dustin before the rodeo and he told me that he hasn't ever had much luck at this rodeo in winning anything but he did meet his girlfriend who was Miss Rodeo Washington here three year ago." As he said this, "Diamond in My Pocket" by Cody Johnson started playing. Dustin backed in the box as Beth videoed. Beth recalls seeing Dustin miss that steer the worst she has ever seen him rope that night (from the nerves). After that she turned away from the gate to watch the slow motion video of the run. When she turned back around she saw him standing in the arena motioning for her to go out there. The announcer said, "Dutin said he hasn't had much luck here but he's hoping to turn that luck around tonight by asking Beth a special question.". And Dustin did just that. Neither Beth or Dustin remember exactly what he said that night, but the end result was a big fat YES. Once they left the arena, they were greeted by both sides of the family and a photographer. Dustin really thought of it all!
