Rosarito Beach Hotel

Blvd. Benito Juarez 31 Centro, Playas Rosarito
Rosarito Beach, B.C. 22710, Mexico

This is where the scheduled events will occur. A discount code for room reservations will be posted when it is available, probably in early December. Rooms are available in either the new tower, which are more modern, or in the original hotel. We are staying in the hotel itself, not because the price is less but because we like the ambiance of the old architecture. Since the tower is next door to hotel, either works and it is just a matter of your preference. I expect that the prices will be considerably lower in December than those posted on expedia, etc., at present.

Travel Note

Possible Travel

If flying, either the San Diego or Tijuana airports are possible. We will provide more info about how to get from the airports to the hotel when we get it from the hotel.

Travel Note

Drive

Drive: You can of course drive to Rosarito Beach, which is what we did at the end of Rick’s bike ride. Driving over the border was easy and didn’t even entail going through any kind of a check point. You can drive without really seeing any of Tijuana itself and the highway was reasonable. Depending on your route, there may be a highway toll which I believe is less than $3.00. There is a parking fee of about $3.50 per day at the hotel. You can easily do without a car in Rosarito Beach but one would be handy if you want to leave the immediate area. Keep in mind that crossing the border on the way home takes much longer by car than by walking across. YOU NEED MEXICAN INSURANCE if you drive in Mexico, whether your own car or a rental car. Our experience was that insurance available in San Diego found through the internet is cheaper than getting it through your insurance company. It cost us about $60.00 for 1 week.

Rental Car

Rental Car

Apparently at least Avis permits you to rent a car in San Diego and drive it into Mexico. You will have to purchase car insurance from the rental company and purchase Mexican insurance which is legally required in Mexico.

Flight

Tijuana International

Flying into Tijuana is probably the most direct but most expensive way into Mexico. You can take a taxi or Uber to the hotel from the airport. When Alejandra returned from the Rosarito Beach Hotel she used Uber to get to the TJ Airport for about $23.00. The Airlines I found flying LAX to Tijuana are Volaris, Aeromexico and Interjet and from Oakland as being Volaris and Hahn Air Systems (who is that?).

Flight

San Diego International to the Border

a. Trolley: Take the 992 bus ($2.25) or cab (about $10.00) to the Santa Fe train station (about 5 minutes); then take the Blue Line Trolley to the border. If you “dare,” you can take Alamo’s free shuttle to its car lot which is across the street from the Trolley station where you take the Blue Line. b. Taxi ($65 - $80): about 20 minutes; c. Shuttle: More info to be provided.

Travel Note

From the Border to the Rosarito Beach Hotel:

a. Walk across the border. Based on Rick’s crossing at the end of his recent ride, walking across the border with your luggage is quick and easy (assuming your suitcase has appropriate rollers and pulls easily). You will have to show your passport (Sandi and Ale didn’t have to when driving across.) However, all information is that walking back across the border into the US is much faster than getting stuck in the traffic involved in driving back across, especially on a Sunday. b. Taxi to the hotel. After crossing the border, you can take a cab or Uber to the hotel, about $25 to $35, negotiate the price ahead of time BEFORE you get in. You may be asked to pay the highway toll ($2.50), so have that in mind while negotiating. Be sure to specify you want to go to the Rosarito Beach Hotel, not just to Rosarito Beach. To get a taxi, after crossing the border, follow the walkway. When coming to a “T”, do not go towards the Casinos. The walkway is elevated and you should soon see taxis.

Shuttle

San Diego International directly to the Rosarito Beach Hotel

February 6, 2020 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

One Shuttle will leave the airport on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., the other on Friday at 3:00 p.m. We are trying to arrange a return Shuttle that would trip leave the hotel at 12:30 p.m. We have been told that that trip takes about 1 hour, though it could be somewhat more if there is a back up at the border. The fare from the airport is $25.00 per person and if we can arrange the return trip from the hotel, the round trip fare will be $35.00 per person. Please let us know ASAP what your choice is so we can make appropriate arrangements.
