(As told by Jenn) *Technically* our paths crossed while we were both students at Miami University. But we really didn't get to know each other until 2017, when we were both living in Columbus and connected on a dating app. While Andy's memory needed a little jogging, I immediately remembered him. We hit it off right away, and scheduled a date for a few days later.
We'd planned to go to the popular Grilled Cheese Monday at a restaurant in Columbus' Short North neighborhood. Unfortunately, so did everyone else in the city. Rather than fighting the crowd, we opted for a bar called Oddfellow's a few doors down, which had a pop-up restaurant in their kitchen that night. They even had grilled cheese! We didn't realize until later that the pop-up restaurant that night specialized entirely in vegan food. We're still not entirely sure what kind of "grilled cheese" we ate! Needless to say, food was not the focus. Before we called it a night, we had a second date scheduled for a few days later.
In April 2019, Andy told me we were headed to a housewarming party for a friend who just moved into a new apartment in Columbus' Victorian Village. When we got out of the car at the corner of Wilber and Neil avenues, Andy asked me if I knew where we were. I glanced around and quickly recognized the area where we'd taken a stroll when we were first dating, and the bench where Andy had insisted on sitting down and taking a photo—our first selfie. When I looked back to Andy to answer him, he was down on one knee, and he asked me to marry him. I said "Yes!" We snapped an updated selfie at our bench (proposal edition!), then celebrated with some bubbly that night and with close family and friends the next day.
