We met in the fall of 2015 at the University of Maryland, College Park, in a mandatory Kinesiology course. Taylor strategically sat next to Jordan because she thought he was cute, normal, and smart. Outside of a group project we worked on together, we kept things cordial, navigating that initial distance. Fast forward to October 21, 2016, when Jordan and Taylor were officially (re)introduced by their mutual friend, Mackenzie Thomas. Motivated by Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola, Jordan took the opportunity to introduce himself, again. Taylor quizzed Jordan to see if he remembered they had class together. Jordan confidently pretended he did. As Jordan’s friends were getting ready to leave the bar, he was eager to keep the conversation going and asked Taylor for her Snapchat. In hindsight, maybe not the smoothest move, but that’s what we did back then! For our first date, Jordan wanted to plan something memorable. Coincidentally, a friend had gifted him tickets to a Wizards vs. Cavaliers game in D.C., so he planned to take Taylor to see LeBron James. Unfortunately, Taylor was scheduled to work that night. Determined to make the date happen, Jordan reached out to Taylor’s best friend, Kayla McCaw, to see if she could cover her shift. Kayla was thrilled and more than happy to help. So on November 11th, 2016 we spent the night getting to know each other over deep-dish pizza and a Cavs win, with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving combining for 56 points in an 11-point victory over the Wizards. Thanks for the alley-oop, gentlemen! Over time, our connection grew as we discovered our shared upbringings and similar family dynamics. We didn’t have to over-explain parts of our past—we just understood. We bonded over music, studied together, and made a tradition of eating lunch together every Monday. After two months of dating, Jordan asked Taylor to be his girlfriend on the night of his Club Soccer Formal. Now, nearly a decade of love, learning, and growth, we’re finally getting married. We can’t wait to share this next chapter with you all!
