On a rainy Saturday in Athens, we met in a very loud bar following a tragic loss of our beloved Georgia Bulldogs. While we initially began our conversation thru mutual friends, we ended up only talking to each other the entire evening (and into the early morning). Following our first encounter, Jake asked Sarah on a date three times before she finally said yes. He took her to the Iberian Pig in Decatur as their first "official" date. Jake likes to think the charcuterie won her over, but in reality, it was the conversation and cocktails. We've been together ever since.
Traveling is our favorite shared hobby, and we both planned an epic vacation to Hawaii to celebrate Jake's first year of graduate school and birthday. We also love to hike together, and actually shared an incredible hike as our second date. We landed pretty late on a Sunday night (Hawaii is FAR away apparently), and went straight to sleep. Jake insisted we wake up at 4:30AM to hike; Sarah tried everything to convince him to sleep in instead. Begrudgingly, they began their very muddy climb up "Sleeping Giant" in Kauai. Once at the top, Jake took Sarah to the "eye" of the giant, which happened to be an amazing cliffside cave. While he distracted her with the views, he pulled out her grandmother's ring to propose to her. We enjoyed the rest of our romantic Hawaiian vacation not telling anyone back home we were engaged, and loved every minute of it.
