We met thanks to coffee, football and good friends. I (Maggie) had just stopped working as a barista at a coffee shop in Pittsburgh because I was about to be ordained and start pastoring a church. Jon was hired at that coffee shop right after I left and my friend Erin who worked there thought we should meet. You see, the Eagles had just won the super bowl ( Go Eagles!) and Erin knew we were both fans in Steelers country so she thought this would be a good thing to bond over. Erin convinced me to meet him and pretend I was just coming in for a cup of coffee and she convinced Jon to wear a nice shirt that day and the rest really fell into place from there. Two weeks later we went on our first date and we’ve been together ever since. I even stole a coaster from the restaurant we had our first date at because I suspected I would want to remember this night and that something was about to change in my life. Our story is extra special to us because while it started so seamlessly, it wasn’t without hardships. On our second date, Jon found out he was accepted to a 2 year Masters Program at Penn State Main in State College which was about a 2 1/2 hour drive. From the beginning we knew we would have a 2 year long, long distance relationship made up of weekends, family vacations and lots of phone calls. Six months later he started school and we continually said yes to each other even when it would have been a lot easier to say no. We are so excited to get to say yes to each other to continuing this journey in front of all our family and friends.
