It was the brisk winter of 2007 during club volleyball season for Shannon and Adam. The girls always practiced before the boys, but only a few people knew each other. One "practice" as required by the league was mandated to learn how to ref for when we went to tournaments. For once, the girls and guys mixed. It was Adam who saw the shining smile of some cute brunette sitting in front of him. Next to her was Adam's friend, so rightfully so this friend immediately got a text inquiring about the status of such a glorious female. Unfortunately, she had a boyfriend as evidenced by her sweatshirt showing off our rival high school. Fast forward 2 months and the girls are having a chat when someone asks "If you could pick one guy in the whole gym, who would it be?". As luck would have it, Shannon picked Adam and the friend that Adam texted was in the circle and immediately yelled that Adam was asking about Shannon during "ref school". Before they knew it, they went on a date to Epic Movie and had a kickass dinner at Ruby Tuesday with 4 other volleyballers. Shannon never had a boyfriend during "ref school", she just decided to keep wearing the rival school's sweatshirt. This changed immediately after Ruby Tuesday.
Adam took his client to a NY Rangers game months prior to said date, so to say thanks "they wanted to take us out to dinner". The client's HQ is in Red Bank, NJ. Adam wasn't too nervous and laughed to himself that morning that the only thing that could go wrong was for them to miss the train. 3 hours later, Shannon arrives back from brunch with her marathon training partners 30min late. Before Adam knew it all the fears have come true, they missed the train. The story would end here if this was pre-Uber, because Adam would have given up and proposed in our small bathroom while Shannon was doing her hair. Uber saved the day and dropped us off at a bar in Red Bank to grab a drink before "dinner". Adam's business partner, John, was there waiting for us with a beer. John then got a "call" from a client that needed my assistance outside. As John and I were outside "talking to our client", Shannon's first ever friend, Andrea, was outside and went in to start Shannon's little tour. Andrea asked Shannon to follow her as she told Shannon how much she meant to her, at which point 2 blocks away Shannon's friend from elementary school, Jill awaited. Jill then took her a few blocks to Katherine, her college roommate. It was the boys' turn now as Katherine, professing her love, passed off Shannon to Smiley, Adam's friend who was at Ruby Tuesday on night #1. The boys were tasked to share how much Shannon meant to Adam and how's he's changed for the better because of her. From Smiley (complete with Fireball shots) to high school teammate, Austin, to John who brought Shannon to the steps of the park where Adam officially asked Shannon to be her girlfriend in 2007. As Shannon walked to Adam, all 6 accomplices hid in the trees taking photos. Adam then shared some words and got on one knee and nearly forgot to the most important question. Two rings were given this day as Adam had always promised. Something traditional, then none other than a watermelon Ring Pop. Shannon accepted both!
