How they Met!

09-15-2023

The story begins on a Friday night at The Ranch Concert Hall and Saloon. Sydney decided to go alone, determined to finally learn how to line dance. Fridays at The Ranch are usually quiet — often reserved for events — so the crowd mostly consists of the true regulars who come just to dance. Ethan was one of them. He had been line dancing for four years and knew the floor like the back of his hand. According to Ethan, the moment he saw Sydney, his interest was immediately piqued. Two weeks later, on a Wednesday night, fate nudged things forward. While learning a new line dance, Ethan decided the best way to introduce himself was to quite literally run into her — forcing a conversation. Sydney, being the extrovert she is, took the bait. What started as a playful moment turned into effortless conversation. No pressure. No awkwardness. Just easy. Later that evening, Ethan asked Sydney to dance one of the most popular couples’ slow dances. For Sydney, being able to dance with her partner was always something that mattered deeply. That moment caught her attention. Nothing physical happened that night — not even a hug. Ethan didn’t even ask for her number. He simply let the moment be what it was. The following Wednesday, Sydney arrived about 20 minutes later than usual because she was working as a teacher’s assistant. And there he was — sitting in the exact same spot they had shared the week before. He had no idea if she would come back, but he took the chance and waited anyway. That night felt just like the first — more talking, more laughter, more learning about each other. At the end of the night, Ethan walked Sydney and her friend Paris to her truck, where he finally asked for her number. From that day forward, they were constantly texting — learning everything and anything about each other. That weekend, they spent their first time together outside The Ranch at a Halloween haunted walk with Paris and Ethan’s friend Pat. The night flew by, filled with laughter, and ended at Pat’s apartment playing blackjack and watching a movie. The next day, they all met up again at a local college bar, which somehow turned into another movie marathon. By then, Sydney knew she was feeling something real — but she wanted to be sure. That upcoming Wednesday, she put intention behind the night. When she walked in, Ethan wasn’t sitting in their usual spot. Instead, he was at a pool table with his brother. He even walked past her multiple times without saying hello. Later, he admitted he did it on purpose — he wanted to see if she would come to him. He needed to know the attraction was mutual. It was. Sydney walked right up to him and asked why he wasn’t sitting with her and why he was ignoring her. After a little back and forth, she asked if he would come join her — and without saying much, he just smiled and followed her back to their usual seat. During the couples’ slow dance that night, while they were dancing, Ethan gently rubbed her hand. That was it. Sydney says she felt electricity run through her body in a way she had never experienced before. From that moment on, they were inseparable. That weekend, they even got into a car accident — an unforgettable first “official” date. The very next day, Sydney met Ethan’s family. His dad, Stephen, greeted her with, “Do you like to get muddy?” and she spent the evening by the fire with his mom. Somehow, it already felt natural. In a surprising twist, that Wednesday night Sydney asked Ethan out — officially making their anniversary October 26, 2023 — the exact same month and day as his parents’. Sydney strongly believes her late grandfather had something to do with it. He once owned a line dancing bar and was one of her biggest supporters. She often feels his presence with her — and likes to think he gave her a little nudge toward Ethan. From that Friday night at The Ranch to now — it’s history. ❤️
