The Borromean Islands is the most popular attraction of the Lake that you easily reach by public boats (from Stresa boats leave every 30 minutes) and you can buy the tickets directly at the terminal which is right in front of the hotels. If you wish to visit the 3 islands (Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola Pescatori) you have to consider a day trip. You can also choose which you would like to visit. Isola Bella and Isola Madre have a palace and garden to visit and you can consider about 1 hour and a half for each island. Isola Pescatori is a nice village with local shops and good restaurants where you can stop for lunch. I suggest visiting the website to see detailed information.
- Ristorante Il Borromeo - Il Vicoletto - Due Piccioni - Taverna del Pappagallo - Ristorante Lo Stornello - Ristorante Pizzeria Mamma Mia
- Al Buscion - El Gato Negro Cafe - Enoteca Da Giannino - Paulon di Vino Caffe - La Bolleria
There is a walking path across from the hotels along the lake offering beautiful views
Lago Maggiore Express (you can visit Locarno and the Vigezzo Valley). This is a full day excursion made by train and by boat. You can start the excursion from Stresa by Boat and have lunch on board. Once in Locarno you can visit the city and then get the Vigezzina Train. This little train leaves from Locarno to Domodossola passing through the Vigezzo Valley (the landscape is breath-taking). Once in Domodossola you will get the train back to Stresa.
