Ceremony site: Luray Caverns 101 Cave Hill Road, Luray, VA 22835 Reception site: Shawnee Farms Estate 2816 Old Forge Road, Luray, VA 22835 They are a 5-10 minute drive from each other.
Please wear cocktail attire (sans ties). The caverns have uneven paths, low lighting, and water in some places, so you may want to avoid stiletto heels. The caverns are a humid 65 degrees year round and April temps in Luray range from 40-70 degrees. The reception will be held in an uninsulated barn with heaters as needed.
If your invitation includes “guest,” “family,” or the name of your partner, then by all means bring your special person. If not, then please just bring yourself. Our ceremony site, being a confined space, can only accommodate 100 people, so plus ones have been limited to adult attendees who are married or with long-term partners.
Children are welcome if the invite includes "and family" or their name(s). We have invited children with whom we have a personal connection. Please be aware that the ceremony site is a one mile walk into the caverns with no bathroom access or exit until the ceremony ends. Touching the cavern formations is strictly prohibited, and no food, only water and baby formula, is allowed. If your child may struggle with any of the above or find the caverns to be scary, consider leaving them at home or with a sitter for the ceremony.
Please RSVP as soon as you receive your invitation and no later than three weeks prior to the wedding. If you still haven’t received your invitation by mid March, please reach out to us. We need an accurate guest count at least three weeks prior due to the limited capacity of our ceremony and for our caterer’s preparation.
The 1-mile walk to the ceremony will take place at 6pm. Since guests walk down together, make sure to arrive ON TIME or you’ll risk missing the entire ceremony. Please plan to arrive around 5:45 outside the caverns.
Both sites offer plenty of free parking! One less thing to worry about :)
Nope! We changed our minds about eloping and decided to have a 4/22 wedding at Luray Caverns and Shawnee Farms Estate due to our love for the venue and the significance of the date (Earth Day and our beloved late cat Newman’s birthday). 4/22/24 looks cool, but we want to be married this year! If you can’t make it due to the short notice, we understand.
We’re committed to having an environmentally conscious wedding with vegan food, reusable utensils and glasses, compostable plates, rented decor and linen napkins, and a composting service. We're aware that weddings inherently have an environmental impact, and we want to reduce ours in the ways we can. Yes, we chose to have our wedding on Earth Day intentionally. :)
We're serving solely vegan food in a buffet style. If this poses a problem, please bring a snack (idk jerky?) or eat before the reception. We’ll have familiar favorites like a hummus bar, along with maybe something new to you. We're mindful of common allergens like gluten, soy, and nuts and will note which dishes contain them. Let us know if you have a less common food allergy.
Once underground inside Luray Caverns, you will not have access to a bathroom for the duration of the ceremony. Please be sure to go beforehand. Anyone unable to spend an hour without bathroom access may wish to celebrate with us just at the reception. Bathrooms on the Luray Caverns grounds are located inside the main building behind the ticket counter and outside by the parking lot entrance to the garden maze.
The ceremony will be held a ONE-MILE walk within Luray Caverns. Although equipped with ramps and handrails at locations with inclines, Luray Caverns has relatively low lighting, occasional water on the ground, and a few steep inclines that may prove difficult to navigate for those with limited mobility.
Due to the rural location of our wedding, we assume most guests will have a car or access to one for the 5-10 minute drive from ceremony to reception. If you don't have a car and are staying somewhere within walking distance of Luray Caverns, please contact us for transportation assistance. If multiple guests reach out with transportation needs, we will consider a shuttle.
Our wedding colors are sage green and dusty rose with accent shades of gold, green and blue. Our colors are inspired by the colors of Luray Caverns and springtime.
We are so excited to say “I do” inside the caverns! Please note the following: Touching the cavern formations is strictly prohibited. Children in particular may struggle with this. Guests who disregard this rule will be removed and may even halt the ceremony. Please help us keep this special day running smoothly.
