Why we love it: It’s cozy, local, and always hits the spot—perfect for a quick bite or a slow morning. We stop here every time we’re in town.
Great for those who want to sight see on four-wheels!
This is one of our favorite hikes in the San Juan Mountains. The trail winds through wildflower-filled meadows and leads to three stunning alpine lakes—Lower, Middle, and Upper Blue Lake. To Lower Blue Lake: approximately 3.2 one way, with about 1,600 ft elevation gain. Many hikers choose to stop here—it's perfect for a picnic or a chilly dip. If you're feeling adventurous, continue on to the Middle and Upper Lakes for even more dramatic alpine scenery. Fun fact: Preston proposed on Mount Sneffels, towering above these lakes—you can actually spot them below us in some of our engagement photos!
A local favorite!
Wonderful fly fishing spot!! (make sure you grab a fishing license)!
A summer favorite! Every Thursday in July, Hartwell Park hosts free live music under the stars. Great bands, local food vendors, and a lively community vibe make it a must-do. Skylar grew up going to these concerts—they’re one of our favorite traditions!
Relax in natural, clothing-optional hot springs with stunning mountain views.
A classic Western spot with hearty food, cowboy charm, and a fun claim to fame—Skylar’s dad’s elk mount hangs proudly inside!
Might just be the perfect spot to cure the Sunday scaries the morning after the wedding—comfort food, coffee, and Ridgway charm.
Every Friday in the Town Park.
Family-friendly natural hot springs with pools and mountain views.
Mount Sneffels — One of Colorado’s most iconic (and very challenging) 14ers. This is where Preston proposed, making it extra special.
If you want to explore the mountains on wheels, check out Altitude Adventures in Ouray. Skylar grew up with the owner, Justin, who played a pivotal role in our proposal day—he rented us the side-by-sides that got us to the Mount Sneffels trailhead!
One of the most beautiful drives in the country. Not for the faint of heart.
Famous for chocolates and “scrap cookies.”
Thrilling climbing route with cables and ladders—guided tours available.

Wedding weekend AND checking a National Park off your bucket list! Jaw-dropping views of one of the steepest, most dramatic canyons in North America. Perfect for a scenic drive, short hikes along the rim, or fly fishing in the Gunnison River.
This is considered a must‑do when visiting the area. You can ride the historic train from Silverton to Durango and back, or Durango to Silverton and back, depending on your travel plans. Two‑for‑one itinerary: Drive the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton, take the train to Durango and back, then stop at the Hippie Dip on your return drive to Ouray along the Million Dollar Highway. It’s the perfect mix of scenery, adventure, and relaxation.
One of the most iconic hikes in the San Juan Mountains, the Ice Lake & Island Lake Trail is known for its unreal alpine scenery—think bright turquoise lakes, wildflowers, waterfalls, and dramatic 13,000‑foot peaks. The reward is well worth the effort. This is a challenging out‑and‑back hike (about 8–9 miles round trip with significant elevation gain), best suited for experienced hikers or those comfortable at altitude. The trail climbs steadily through forest and open meadows before opening up to breathtaking alpine basins at Ice Lake and Island Lake. Start early to beat crowds and afternoon weather, pack plenty of water, layers, and sun protection, and wear sturdy hiking shoes. While demanding, this hike is an unforgettable Colorado experience and one of our absolute favorites for adventurous guests looking to explore the mountains. Tip: If you're driving from Ouray you will drive over Red Mountain Pass (Million Dollar Highway) and right past the hippy dip!
