Our Love Story

June 2010 – Present

Jasmyn & Collin met at the University of Kansas freshman orientation at age 18. Being the friendly small-town kid that he was, Collin promptly turned around, introduced himself, and started spouting off his life story after Jasmyn sat down behind him. Before he left orientation, he asked Jasmyn and several other newfound friends if he could write down their names so he could add them on Facebook (LOL) & he also asked if they wanted to form an intramural sand volleyball team with him. From this point on, Jasmyn referred to him as "Freaking Friendly Collin". They sat together in their freshman Biology and Anatomy classes & talked the entire time instead of listening to the lectures. They remained close over their college years even after Jasmyn transferred to Baker to play volleyball, always keeping a text thread going & reuniting every couple of months or so, picking up right where they left off. Things finally (FINALLY) started getting romantic when they went on the same spring break trip to Panama City Beach, Florida senior year. They two-stepped on the beach, played some sand volleyball, and indulged in some damn good $5 burgers along the beach. On the car ride home, Collin jokingly said to his friends, "Guys, am I in love?!" .... Was it really a joke though?? Collin decided to ask Jasmyn to his senior formal and they almost started dating…. almost. You’ll get a slightly different account of what happened depending on who you ask. ;) They split ways for the next year or so. Then, as Collin was gearing up for another spring break trip to Panama City Beach in 2015, Jasmyn texted him … “Hey, what are you doing for spring break?” “Going to PCB again…. you?”
“Can I come?!” As badly as Collin wanted to say no, he couldn’t. Jasmyn joined him and his group of friends for their 2nd round in PCB & the rest is history. They’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since.

The Proposal

April 1, 2018

Collin worked weekends at the time, so he couldn’t just ask for any random weekend off to pop the question or Jazz might have seen it coming… and the most important thing to him was that she would be genuinely surprised. He had the bright idea to propose on Easter/his birthday because she'd never see it coming. This is where it gets complicated because KU was playing in the Final 4 the night before, and… priorities. They went to Lawrence the night before the big day, because if they hadn’t, Jazz would have known something was up. After the unfavorable outcome of the game, they went to their favorite college bar to dance & drown their sorrows and “accidentally” stayed out ’til 3 a.m. [It was all a part of the plan!] They overslept the next morning and didn’t make the early morning Easter festivities. This ended up working out because everyone was acting pretty quiet when they showed up at Grandma’s, and Jazz thought Collin’s family was irritated that they were late. Per the plan, Aunt Amy announced that the big “kids” had overlooked some money eggs in the egg hunt earlier that morning & there was still about $50 worth left in the front yard. [Collin knew it had to be a significant amount of money to get Jasmyn outside because she hates the cold.]
After Jasmyn tracked down THE egg, she opened it to find a little black box. Collin grabbed the box out of her hand and she gave him a sassy, “WTF! Finders keepers!” look…. Until he got down on one knee & popped the question. Jazz looked like she had seen a ghost. She was so caught off guard that she straight up SPIKED the egg to the ground and broke it! [She says she didn’t know what to do with her hands!] Once Jasmyn finally collected herself from the initial shock and managed to say “yes”, she looked up to see her own family in the background and lost it all over again. Jasmyn, Collin & their families got to celebrate Easter and this wonderful moment all together all in one day. #BESTDAYEVER #NAILEDIT
