The grocery store… That’s where Heidi was hoping to meet her person. Finding a partner at church struck her as impossible and Harris Teeter or Whole Foods seemed like the next best thing. But God had a different plan. She met Skip while attending Living Savior Lutheran Church. Depending upon whom you ask, their courtship began with either her politely pursuing Skip or him politely pursuing Heidi. After multiple encounters at church services and events, and with a little encouragement from wise friends, their divinely plotted course to the altar began. Their first date was nearly their last. Over dinner at Post 25, a local restaurant, Skip proceeded to talk… and talk… and talk. Not getting more than an occasional sentence in, Heidi had doubts about a second date. But when Skip invited her to the firing range a few days later, it was an offer she couldn’t pass up. Skip was a good sport after Heidi proved to be the better shot, but she had made up her mind… she “owed” him a third date (Skip insisted on paying for the first and second dates) and then she would politely end this silly escapade. Over the next few weeks, however, Skip’s thoughtful text messages, perfectly timed phone calls, and calm demeanor appealed to Heidi. Months later, they realized they were falling in love. Over the past two-plus years, Heidi and Skip have experienced many adventures together: the transition from federal law enforcement to a new career in social work for Heidi; continuous successful home builds for Skip; relaxing Sunday afternoon motorcycle rides together; a trip to St. Lucia and multiple treks home to Wisconsin; weekend getaways with and without family and friends; and an unplanned birthday in the hospital for Skip when he needed a pacemaker- just to name a few. Most significant for the couple was designing and building their dream home together. Although a bit unique, Skip and Heidi’s love story is perfectly their own. Like all relationships, they’ve enjoyed highs, weathered lows, and encountered the many degrees of human experience that exist in-between. They’ve remained steadfast in their commitment to each other and to God, knowing and believing that with Him they have all they need. They’ve chosen to share this life together and are excited to celebrate with those they love and care about.
