The stream will begin around 1:45 to allow time for guests to join just as they would need time to be seated at the live event. The ceremony officially begins at 2pm! We are sad that we can't all be together in person, but we are so thankful for the technology to allow us to be together virtually!
It all started when we both decided to apply for internship positions at Southside Baptist Church as youth interns. We met at the first meeting before the summer started (romantic right?) to talk about what was going to happen and what our goals were and what not. Obviously, it was love at first sight on Cody's part. Becky's reaction was a little different and as she quickly thought, "dang it. He's cute. I can't work with a cute guy!" Apparently, she could work with a cute guy and it turned out pretty well..
It is still yet to be determined when our first date was (weird, I know). If you're reading this, then I'm sure you read how we met and that we were dreaded co-workers. That meant that we were off limits no matter how much love was blossoming (gross, I'm sorry). Near the end of the summer internship, the two of us were planning on going to the Nashville Zoo with the youth pastor. The day before, we found out that the youth pastor was backing out (still don't know if he really had an excuse or was trying to play cupid) but we still were determined to go because Cody sure does love birds and Becky just loves the magic of zoos. SO, we ended up making the trek to the zoo together, Cody paid (date?), then we walked the pedestrian bridge downtown (date? but co-workers..), and then made it back home. A few weeks later, after we finished working together (12 hours after we finished working together), Cody made the romantic gesture of texting Becky to ask if she had plans. After deciding to get dinner and see a movie, Becky proceeded to scream and tell all of her friends that she was basically getting married. We saw Christopher Robin (so good by the way) after eating at Bridge Street (a mall in Huntsville). Cody didn't hold Becky's hand and ended the night with a romantic side hug.
After discussing for a long time that a proposal would occur sometime between November and December, Cody thought it would be a great idea to surprise Becky with an early proposal. She was not prepared. They had plans that evening to meet with Cody's friends for dinner at a restaurant at Big Spring Park. They got ready and looked cute for once. Becky was tired and was ready to change into comfy clothes and chill, but went to dinner anyways. As they walked around the park, they spotted Nate (Becky's brother) crouching behind a tree, holding his baby. He quickly zoomed away suspiciously, but Becky thought nothing of it because it was August so there was not a whisper of a thought of a proposal going through her head. They continued to walk around the park until they spotted Robyn (Nate's wife, incredible photographer). She calmly told them that she was meeting a client but she could take a cute picture of them while she waited. They posed and she said, "do y'all want to try a different pose?" Cody walked behind Becky and proceeded to tie his shoe. At least that's what Becky thought. She then realized that he was holding a ring, "Cody doesn't have a ring," she thought. Well, he apparently did have a ring. Cody quickly asked, "Will you marry me?" (as you do). Becky was too shocked. Had her mouth open like an idiot. Said, "What? Are you serious?" about 100 times before Cody had to remind her that the proper response is "Yes!" Robyn quickly took some pictures to capture the moment. Their families came a few minutes later, they ate, Becky still couldn't talk, the family laughed at her, but it was fine because WE WERE ENGAGED!!
During the extent of our relationship, we have been living anywhere from 115 - 440 miles apart. In August, 2019, Cody moved to New Orleans to begin working toward his MDiv at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He still has a few semesters to go on his degree and is loving learning, serving, and teaching God’s Word. Becky is finishing up her degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Nutrition from Troy University. She will be graduating December, 2020. After the wedding, Becky will be moving to New Orleans. After over 2 years of long distance, we are so incredibly excited to begin our journey together!
