The MIT museum is a great place for all sorts of robitic and computing gadgets, interesting technology-based artwork, and the general weirdness that is MIT.
Our favorite of the Boston Art Museums. Good Impressionist collection and Hudson River School artwork. Presumably they've got some ghastly contemporary stuff in there too, but we've never investigated. :) Perfect if the weather is cold.
If you're up for braving the March weather, a walk around the park and the public garden is lovely. There is a nice ice skating rink on the common for those feeling more adventurous.
A close second to New York in terms of wonderful old library buildings (the old part, which is on Copley Square). Make sure you check out the old reading room on the second floor up the marble staircase.
Boston's main shopping street, right next to the Public Garden. Newbury street is good for a stroll and window shopping or real shopping, according to your taste. Stop by the Thinking Cup for a coffee, or cross over to the Prudential Center if you get tired of the cold.
A very Bostonian feel. You can walk around the small streets, eat great Italian or seafood dishes as well as the famous Boston cannoli (Mike’s pastry is really good)
Beacon Hill is the pretty part of Boston that you tend to see in movies - narrow streets, gas lamps, old brick houses. Opposite the Common.
The Harvard campus is actually quite good fun to wander around and see what $60 billion of endowment can buy you. The Museum of Natural History here is interesting too, for its collection of dinosaur skeletons and glass flowers. Or just wander around and feel like an extra in the movie Good Will Hunting.
If you are here with kids, this museum is a ton of fun! We went there just the two of us and it was worth the visit.
Our favorite local knowledge place for live music in Boston. Right opposite the Berklee College of music, so draws a steady stream of very talented and very broke musicians to play live sets from afternoon onwards. Particularly good for bluegrass and folk. Free entry.
Good food and good music! They have a jazz brunch a few times a week and live music every night
One of Deb’s favorite restaurants in Boston. They serve small plates of Mediterranean food. Order one or two of the fateh, it is amazing!
To get a great view from Boston, go up to the top of the hub deck at the prudential center. They also have a restaurant up there, but the view is better than the food.
They have great brunch. It is right by the Lenox Hotel.
Another Deb special. It’s also small plates to share, but very worthwhile the visit to Cambridge. It’s right by the Harvard campus, so you can combine the two.
Israeli bakery shop. It is a great option for a quick brunch, lunch or afternoon coffee.
Very tasty pizzas and charcuterie boards. Close by to the Lenox Hotel.
If you want fancy Italian, their tasting menu is delicious and really good value.
