We met on the dating app Tindr, while Siri was attempting to find profiles of obnoxious Improv Guys to send to her friends back in Chicago. She happened upon Josh’s profile. Which had no tigers, no guns, and no shirtless pics. Instead he proclaimed that “Ira Glass is very important to me and I need you to know that up front.” and featured photos of himself trying coffee in Paris and his little sister giving him a kiss on the cheek at his NYU graduation. Siri and Josh talked about Europe, fringe theatre, and existential comedians until Josh asked her to meet up at a bar he had been to several times with his older brother in her new neighborhood of Paul Thomas Anderson’s romantic San Fernando Valley, Rabbit Hole. Josh thought Siri was flirting with the bartender when she was making sure she was in the right place and using her Oregonian charm to get a custom cocktail from the owner instead of ordering off the menu. They chatted and joked and laughed for about an hour until the bar’s inagural open mic comedy night started. Where their table was placed the nacent couple awkwardly in the front row of sets about divorce and bad dates. They ducked out quietly as soon as they could and walked to the McDonalds nearby to keep up the conversation and kissed in the parking lot. The rest was many a date at Hollywood Theatres, San Fernando Valley Malls, and a decision to get back in to theatre by moving to San Diego.
