Things To Do

We want to welcome you to Omaha! We have had fun exploring the area in the last few months. Here are some of the places we have enjoyed or are looking forward to exploring. If you have time while in town, check some of them out!

College World Series of Omaha

The 2022 College World Series, as always, is hosted in Omaha NE. The first games are set to play on June 17, 2022, and last through the next week. If you are interested in catching a game while in town, be sure to get your tickets early!

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium

The zoo was the first place we explored when we moved down to Omaha! Wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the humidity!

The Durham Museum

This 1930's train station has been turned museum. The museum has local history as well as history regarding trains. They also host various traveling exhibits.

Lauritzen Gardens/Kenefick Park

The gardens are beautiful. Be sure to buy a tram ticket to hear more about the gardens. On the far side of the parking lot away from the garden entrance, you'll see a ramp and staircase that will lead you to Kenefick Park where two large locomotives look over the river.

Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum

If you like planes, check this place out. SAC was formed during the Cold War. The museum has a number of exhibits on Cold War events but also has a lot of military aircraft on display.

Wildlife Safari Park

Get ready to see some wildlife! This drive-through park has a wide array of animals including elk, bison, eagles, cranes, bears, and wolves. Most animals you can see from the road but if you are interested in seeing the eagles, bears, or wolves you will need to walk a short distance from a parking lot.

Squirrel Cage Jail

A jail may seem like an odd place to visit but it is one of fewer than 20 jails to have a rotating cell block and one of three to still remain. The rotating cell block was eventually deemed a safety hazard and the jail was turned into a museum.

Dodge House-Historic General

Just over the river into Iowa is this historic house. The house belong to a railroad magnet who helped design and build the transcontinental railroad, the Cuban national railroad, the French railroad system, and the TransSiberian railroad.

Joslyn Castle

Another one of the historic homes in the area, this home was designed to look like European country estates. Be mindful of the tour hours are very limited though: Every Sunday at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm Every Monday at 10:30am and 12:30pm Every Thursday at 2:00pm

Freedom Park

Freedom Park serves as a United States Naval Museum on the Missouri River and is home to the USS Marlin SST-2 Submarine and the USS Hazard AM-240 Minesweeper, Anchor & Propeller Garden, Shipboard Rocket Launchers and a Douglas A-4D Skyhawk Jet Fighter and other aircraft.
