Maritime Gloucester
Great little museum on the harbor dedicated to Gloucester's maritime history and boat building. Right on the schooner dock.
Stage Fort Park
Rocky cliffs and great views - very close to downtown. Also a small sandy beach. There is plenty of parking, but you will need to go to the city of Gloucester's website to reserve in advance!
Hammond Castle Museum
This is a weird but wonderful place, right on the shore south of Gloucester harbor. It's a re-creation of a medieval castle, complete with lots of suits of armor and a huge pipe organ! Recommended for kids or anyone who loves castles and ocean views
Beautiful Beaches in Gloucester
Gloucester has some beautiful sandy beaches - our favorite is Wingaersheek, but Good Harbor Beach is also great! NOTE: be sure to check out the Gloucester beach info website to reserve parking! See: https://gloucester-ma.gov/299/Beach-Information
Peabody Essex Museum
Huge museum featuring art, decorative objects, model ships, and so much more! One of our favorite places - if you go, be sure to sign up for the historic homes tour or the Chinese House (if you are into that kind of thing)
Visit Rockport, MA
The quintessential seaside New England village - delightful shops, galleries, seafood, and handmade saltwater taffy. A great place to pick up those New England souvenirs!
Eastern Point Lighthouse, Gloucester
This beautiful lighthouse guards the entrance to Gloucester Harbor, standing all the way out on the end of Eastern Point. The causeway and rocks are fun to clamber on and the views are gorgeous. NOTE: there is *very* limited parking on the point, so this is a good destination to bike to!
Beauport, Sleeper-McCann House
Beautiful historic house museum out on Eastern Point in Gloucester - offers tours and amazing harbor views. One of the many Historic New England properties in the area.
North Shore Kayak & Bike Adventures and Flip-Flop Emporium
Want to get out in a kayak on the harbor? This place is very friendly, and you can either sign up for a guided tour (the guides are great!) or rent your own. Recommend that you book in advance, because they do fill up!
