Kia and Nate met in college. Both were music majors in different concentrations, but shared some of the same classes. The only time they interacted was when Kia would try to wake Nate up in music theory class! It wasn’t until sophomore year when they really started talking to each other. And who knew: Faison and LaGrange was only 45 minutes away the whole time; participating in FBLA (going to the convention the SAME year) and never crossed paths. Their love story started October 31, 2017 and has been filled with fun times, growth, lessons, but most importantly: love.
It started out as a "squad" trip. Our friend group hadn't seen each other in MONTHS, so Nate had suggested going to Meadow Lights. We both love the Christmas season. We rode the train ride and when it was over, ALL of the guys decided to go help Eric (groomsman) change his daughter. They were being very suspicious, but I thought nothing of it, because they were the boys; they were weird! Us girls went to the store to browse and the boys joined us again; still being suspicious. It was then suggested we take pictures. Nate and I walked over by more light displays and ran into his long time best friends. What a coincidence, right?! Cheyenne (bridesmaid) said we should go first with the pictures. We moved over into position and then he started with his speech: his childhood best friends, our college best friends, AND my sister and nephew were all there and in on it!! I had no clue and was definitely surprised. -Kia’s POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What she thought was a squad trip was truly my plan to propose. And of course, you guessed it: she was oblivious to it all. This plan of mine all came together, after reaching out to our friend group (without Kia) and asking them if they were available to come to Meadow Lights. We both love Christmas, so tis the season! I had also reached out to a few more people that have been around Kia and I from the beginning. While at Meadow Lights, we of course take our train ride, and again she’s not catching all of our (the guys and I) subtle jabs at the proposal/plan. During this time, I was also messaging everyone else making sure they were in place. After the ride, we head inside to get some souvenirs and baby Tasia needed her diaper changed… BINGO! Perfect time for the guys and myself to slip out and get things prepared. The girls came out not too long after; I made sure everyone else was coming and prepared as our world was about to change. Cheye suggested that we take pictures as a group, so we did. After that my best friends, Kenya and Thania, had popped up and it was a matter of time before I called out for Corena and Mekhi to come out. I proceeded to give my speech, drop to one knee and proposed to the love of my life. Perfect moment with some of our closest friends and family. It doesn’t get any better than that! -Nate’s POV
