11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Attire: flowy fabrics in shades of yellow, orange or green; light and airy silhouettes (please see the Haldi Mood Board on the 'What To Wear' page for inspiration).
Event Overview: the Haldi Ceremony is an auspicious ritual that brings good luck and prosperity to the couple. Loved ones come together to apply a yellow turmeric paste (called 'haldi') to the couple's face, neck, hands, and feet. The haldi has spiritual significance and symbolizes purity, blessings, and good fortune. This joyful occasion is celebrated with dhol (drum beats), songs, and dancing. This event will be hosted by Simran's parents at their home. We ask that everyone park in the street and leave the driveway clear. Wholly Frijoles Mexican Street Food will be catering the event (Indian cuisine and various snacks will also be available). There will be a bartender on hand making/serving alcoholic drinks to adult guests.
6:00 pm
Attire: semi-formal Western or Indian attire with various silhouettes and bright colors (please see the Sangeet Mood Board on the 'What To Wear' page for inspiration).
Event Overview: the Jaggo (Punjabi for "wake up") and Sangeet (Sanskrit for "sing together") are pre-wedding rituals that bring families and friends together for a night of music, dancing, and celebration. This fun and joyous event is a time for feasting, drinking, and enjoying each other's company. As per tradition, the first part of the night will contain choreographed dance routines from members of Simran's family, followed by the singing of traditional Punjabi folk songs. Next, the bride and groom will be joined by close relatives to dance to the energetic beats of the dhol (a traditional Indian drum). Everyone will then be invited to the dance floor to dance and celebrate with the couple! Similar to a wedding reception, this event will have a DJ, an open bar, and delicious food. However, this event will also contain a lot of brand new experiences for Nate's family and friends. We encourage everyone to get out on the dance floor, socialize with one another, and have a great time!
9:00 am
Attire: formal clothing in jewel tones; silhouettes include long skirts, flowing trousers, tunics, and traditional Indian attire. Clothing should be modest and cover most of the legs (please see the Anand Karaj Mood Board on the 'What To Wear' page for inspiration).
Event Overview: the Anand Karaj, or "Blissful Union," is a Sikh wedding ceremony that symbolizes the spiritual and emotional bond between two people. It takes place in a Sikh temple known as a Gurdwara. Before and after the ceremony, guests will gather in the langar (kitchen) to socialize and enjoy a meal with one another. Gurdwara Customs: when walking into the temple, all guests are required to remove their shoes and cover their heads before entering the main hall. There are shelves/cubbies by the entrance where you can place your shoes. Head coverings (like bandanas or scarves) will also be available at the entrance. It is customary for guests to sit on the floor in the langar and prayer hall (chairs are available for those with mobility or health issues.) NOTE: Alcohol and tobacco are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on Gurdwara premises (including the parking lot). All guest MUST wear long pants or a long dress/skirt that goes past the knees.
