Morgan, the single customer service rep, was being puppeteered by her colleagues, and she didn't even know it. Zoe, one of the other customer service reps, approached her one day and started up a tween-like discussion of crushes and dates. Oblivious to what was happening, Morgan responded that she didn't really have a crush on anyone. Zoe then asked about Chance, the cute guy who stocked the shelves at the very same grocery store, Landis Supermarket. "Him? He's at least 25. I'm 18. Are you crazy?" Morgan responded, befuddled at the prospect of dating a much older man. "Chance is 18. He's a senior in high school." Zoe claims. Morgan did not believe her for a second. When she asked for proof, she didn't actually think Zoe could produce it. Lo and behold, she did. The manager of the front end kept record of everyone's birthday. Zoe showed it to Morgan, and, much to her surprise, she was actually OLDER than Chance (only by 19 days but she is still called a cougar 😂). A little while later, after some confusion on how the man with the giant beard was 18, Morgan was convinced to text Chance. She waited and waited (he was horrendous at texting because at 18 he still didn't have an iPhone) and panicked that this was a mistake. Thankfully, he responded. After some intense word vomit from Morgan and some short replies from Chance, he eventually asked her out to go mini golfing.
When they tell the tale of the first date, many are shocked there was a second. After a bit of an unforeseen late start to the date, Morgan and Chance ventured off to Freddy Hill Farms for a mini golf double date. Morgan, who is not a fan of awkward silence, decided to fill the car ride there with “conversation” (we are using that term loosely as it was almost entirely one sided) about everything and anything she could muster up. Once the mini golfing began, the conversation was led by Chance’s older brother, KJ. He proceeded to do all the heavy lifting for the conversation during the remainder of the double date. While many would think that Morgan would’ve gotten the hint after several hours that Chance was not the dazzling conversationalist she felt she was (she isn’t), she ignored the signs and continued to talk his ear off for many more hours. At about midnight, after being parked in Morgan’s driveway for a long time, they finally departed ways, somehow both confident that it was a magical evening. Thankfully they both thought that because, many years later, it is one of their favorite stories to tell.
Morgan knew a ring was coming at some point during the year, but she had no idea when. Many friends had suggested that it may happen during their trip to the Netherlands, but she figured that he wouldn’t add another thing to his plate during his first international trip that happened to be for work. Nevertheless, she, thankfully, got her hair and nails done “just in case” he popped the question. Chance had already decided to propose during their driving tour of the castles on their first day there. Neither of them expected to be that sleep deprived, nor did Morgan anticipate being in plane clothes with no makeup and messy hair for her engagement. However, it couldn’t have been more perfect. At their final stop on the driving tour, they arrived at Estate Huys te Warmont, a giant castle like estate in the Netherlands. Upon arrival, Morgan realized her phone was dead. Saddened by the fact that she couldn’t take pictures, Chance kindly offered to take the photos for her. The two then proceeded to bicker about how Morgan felt she was better at taking pictures. As they rounded the side of the estate, they noticed a cute bridge overlooking the back of it over the water (obviously, what else would a bridge be over). Chance suggested that the bridge would be a great spot to get a picture of the estate and the water. Oblivious to his plot, she agreed. When they got to the bridge, Chance gave her his phone, allowing her to believe it was just because he agreed that she took the better pictures. While she was focused on getting the best angle, he took out the ring they designed together and got down on one knee. Morgan turned around, phone in hand, looking up ready to show him the picture she just took, and was surprised when he wasn’t there. She slowly looked down and saw him on one knee. She proceeded to jump up and down like a child, and essentially yell at him to ask the question so she could say yes, which she almost did before he got to ask her to marry him. He finally stopped laughing and asked her to marry him, which she promptly said yes to.
