It was Friday of March Madness, the opening rounds of the annual NCAA basketball tournament. Jarvis and Simons had both left work early and headed to Home Team BBQ to cheer on the teams they had picked in their respective bracket pools. Simons arrived with a girlfriend and Jarvis had already been seated with a crew of his own. As luck would have it, mutual friends waived each other over to join and the two met for the first time. They hit it off immediately. It became quickly evident that Jarvis’s bracket picks were all wrong while Simons, on the other hand, couldn't lose! Jarvis began to wonder: is she an NCAA genius? Does she have a hot hand? Is she naturally lucky? As the crowd began to disperse, Jarvis scrambled to find a way to spend more time with this girl. He insisted that she HAD to buy lottery tickets for the jackpot which was sitting over $600 million. He agreed to split the investment with Simons under the agreement they also split the winnings. To ensure she wouldn't run off with the jackpot, Jarvis cleverly required that Simons text him a picture of the purchased tickets. Unfortunately, they did not have the winning lottery numbers, but Jarvis now had the only number he needed, Simons’s. The next day, he picked her up to head out to Sullivan’s for St. Patrick’s Day festivities with a group of mutual friends. Call it the luck of the Irish or simply fate itself, the two of them have been inseparable since. by Jarvis
Jarvis proposed to Simons on the dock at her family's place on Edisto Island (aka "The Country"). Simons' paternal grandfather, "Grandaddy", purchased the property before Simons was born and she has special memories there as far back as she can remember. It has consistently been her favorite place throughout her life that has always brought her joy. On a beautiful December afternoon, Simons and Jarvis were spending the day at the Country and decided to soak in the view at the dock before cooking dinner. As the sun began to set over the marsh and the colors began reflecting off the calm creek water as the tide turned, Jarvis nervously got down on one knee and asked Simons for the honor to be the next consistent presence in her life that brought her joy, for the rest of their lives.
