A popular hill walk which is approx 1.5 hours round trip. A beautiful panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding mountains awaits you at the top.
For those of you who are after a bit of a thrill and a solid work out head to Bike Glendu. Well maintained mountain bike tracks with the option to hire E-bikes which helps on the bike up. Stunning views of the Motutapu Station/Valley, Treble Cone ski fields and the western part of Lake Wanaka.
If you have a spare day up your sleeve, Rob Roy Glacier is an epic family friendly day walk. Its an impressive one hour drive up the Matukituki Valley from Wanaka to Raspberry Creek car park. From there it is a 3-4 hour return walking track.
Another option for a day trip if time permits. Makarora is an hours drive north from Wanaka. From there the Blue Pools are a further ten minutes drive. If there is still more time in the day, we suggest booking a jet boat ride up the Wilkin river from Makarora. The company is called Wilkin River Jets and is a great way to see some of Mt Aspiring national park wilderness.
For those of you who are interested in a round of golf, located on the upper terraces of Wanaka township is the Wanaka golf course. Its a picturesque course, without the hefty green fees that the Queenstown area is known for.
Roys Peak is a steep 2.5-3 hour climb to the most photographed scenery in NZ. Panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, glaciers and the lake in its entirety. Take the right clothing, plenty of snacks and water as it is very exposed at the top.
