Here are some helpful tips for what to wear at each of the ceremonies. (It's not necessary to wear Indian clothing, it is completely optional. Feel free to wear western clothing!) Scroll down for more information about each type of clothing. Sangeet Ceremony - Oct 11th Western: Floral/Fall dress or business dress or business casual clothing Indian: Women -- Salwaar Kameez or Lengha; Men -- Kurta Pyjama Wedding Ceremony (Sikh Temple) - Oct 13th Western: Business casual. Avoid short skirts, shorts or thin strap blouses. Indian: Women -- Salwaar Kameez; Men -- Kurta Pyjama, Achkan/Sherwani Everyone must cover their head. Women should bring a scarf to cover your head during the wedding ceremony in the temple. There will be handkerchiefs provided for the men. Reception - Oct 13th Western: Business dress or business casual. Indian: Women -- Lengha or Saree; Men -- Achkan/Sherwani
- Western clothing -- business casual or business dress. - A Salwaar Kameez -- This is basically a long shirt with pants. If you are planning on wearing Indian for the wedding, this would be ideal and most comfortable as you'll be sitting on the carpeted floor for the wedding. -- A Lengha -- This is a long "maxi" skirt with a blouse that can be short or longer. Really any style of this goes now. Its very comfortable and ideal for the reception. -- A Sarree -- This is a 9-10 yard piece of fabric wrapped around you. Ideally, buy the "pre-stitched" saree, as it is easier to wear. The blouse can be long or short. Ensure the sarree comes with a "petticoat" (slip skirt) as it can otherwise be see-through. This style would be ideal for the reception as well.
- Western business casual or business dress - Kurta Pyjama -- A long shirt with long pants underneath. This is generally the most comfortable option and would be ideal for the sangeet or wedding. - Sherwani/Achkan -- Similar to above, but the shirt is generally a nehru/high collared jacket with pants. The long shirt can also be covered with a long vest as a variation of the same style. Ideal for the wedding/reception.
A few of the websites that seem reasonably priced are listed below. Go wild! Choose the style and colour of your choice! These websites take 4-6 weeks to deliver so get carckin'! From the reviews I've read and watched on Youtube they seem reliable. However, feel free to look them up as well. We recommend trying something on in a shop if you're not sure about what you want.
