What happens at Sikh Weddings?

Answer

A Sikh wedding (Anand Karaj) is a sacred and joyous union between two individuals and God. The ceremony takes place in a Gurdwara. The wedding ceremony begins with the singing of hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib (Holy Sikh Scripture), followed by the arrival of the bride and groom, who sit together before the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The officiating Sikh priest (Granthi) leads the couple through the Anand Karaj ceremony, which includes the recitation of prayers and the circling of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a symbol of unity. During the Laavan ceremony, the couple takes four rounds around the Guru Granth Sahib Ji while the sacred hymns, called Laavan, are sung. Each round represents a different stage of married life, focusing on aspects such as love, happiness, and spiritual growth. After the wedding ceremony, guests gather for a meal served. *Key things to keep in mind are maintain modesty including clothing that is full length with a scarf or bandana to cover your head.
