(His Perspective) After my Junior year at Texas Bible College I left on an internship to help Rev. Scott Sistrunk in Michigan. It was camp season when I arrived and he suggested I go and help as well as sing on the praise team. The camp started a couple days in to my trip so I was quickly on my way to Marshall. I showed up for orientation and knew absolutely no one. I didn’t mind it though. Orientation went on for what seemed like forever and they had us all sitting in circles. They were doing ice breaker exercises and kind of going over the rules at the same time. Then all of the sudden this certain girl walks in about twenty minutes late and just so happens to sit in the circle I was in. Immediately she grabbed my attention. She was extremely pretty, and I wasn’t about to go this whole orientation without talking to her. I could just tell right away from the first moment I saw her that she was special. Then all of the sudden I got my opportunity. The person sitting next to her got up to go to the bathroom and I practically ran over and sat down next to her. I introduced myself to her and found out this extremely pretty girl’s name was Tatum. We started to have some small talk about the fact that there was a tornado warning issued for the area around the campground. I tried to make some lame jokes, but then she made some as well. We talked for the rest of orientation and I was immediately a goner. I knew just from this one conversation that she was someone I wasn’t going to let go. I had to have her in my life. Just from first impressions she was beautiful, funny, and had an awesome personality that was just easy to talk to. As camp went on, the harder I fell. I specifically made it a point to see if she would be able/want to maintain a long distance relationship and without skipping a beat, she said yes. Shortly after camp ended, we went on our first date..& the rest is history.
(Her Perspective) We decided to go to downtown Detroit, MI to celebrate our one-year anniversary of dating. Simeon had come up to Michigan for a quick weekend (or so I thought). Simeon was very adamant that we dressed up and matched. Earlier that day, Simeon could not eat anything, which if you know Simeon, you'd know that something was up. We got ready to go and he kept incredibly cool the entire drive. Once we got to Detroit he wanted to see EVERYTHING and would not just sit still and enjoy the evening. I was so confused! He then decided he really wanted to get on the roof of one of the old buildings. (A lot of walking in very uncomfortable shoes) When they wouldn't let him up he started to act funny and was checking his phone an awful lot. He kept going back to this Opera house asking if we could take pictures on the roof and they kept replying "we don't do that". Finally he went in without me while I waited outside (due to bloody feet) and told them "I've been in contact with the owner for weeks and I'm supposed to propose to my girlfriend today!" Eventually someone came out to take us on a "tour" of the building, or so I thought. When we finally got up to the top, I was just taken aback by how beautiful it was. Simeon had his camera and started to take pictures of the skyline, when out jumps a photographer that I've been friends with, but I knew he'd never met. I was so confused, then he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. To which I replied "how did you two meet??" and then said yes! We took pictures and called all of our family and close friends. We had big dinner plans, but we decided we'd rather go back home and just chill (because we're boring). The next day, Simeon and my mother had planned a surprise party with family and a few close friends. It was amazing, but the best surprise (for both of us) was Simeon's parents flying up to surprise us. It truly was the best weekend.
