We're Getting Married!

Ricky and Silvia met in 6th grade math class at ages 12 & 11 years old. Ricky had a huge crush on Silvia throughout middle school. He admired that she was smart and always wanted to compete with him in math classes. Silvia may or may not have had a crush on Ricky, but always loved laughing and competing with Ricky. Being young and timid, Ricky never had the courage to ask Silvia out. After their Middle School promotion both Ricky and Silvia went on to attend different high schools and live separate lives, until almost 14 years later when they reconnected.

Almost 14 years after their Middle School graduation, Ricky and Silvia went on their first date. They followed each other on Instagram for about a year with no communication other than a few likes and reactions; Until Ricky decided to slide in Silvia’s DMs and start a conversation regarding her recent post. They chatted about the post, and caught up on each other’s lives the past 14 years. Ricky quickly discovered that he was still interested in his middle school crush, and wanted to pursue her now they were both adults. After a few days of messaging Ricky confidently asked Silvia to the movies. He asked what she was doing Saturday and if she wanted to go see a scary movie together. She didn’t hesitate to respond with a “no, you have a girlfriend!”. Ricky laughed and explained that the girl on his Instagram posts was his best friend Vivi (now one of Silvia’s best friends). After some back and forth convincing Silvia agreed to go to the movies, but not to watch a scary movie. The date consisted of a movie and In-n-Out after the movie. Neither can remember the name of the movie now, but do remember they had a fun time with lots of laughter and reminiscing. They continued to go on a few dates, and 3 weeks later Ricky asked Silvia to be his girlfriend on 10/22/18.

Five years after their first date Ricky and Silvia planned to spend New Years week in Yokohama, Japan Two months before their trip to Japan, Ricky decided to ask Silvia’s dad, George, for his blessing in marrying Silvia during a trip to Valle de Guadalupe. Ricky was nervous of what George would say, but decided to take advantage that the girls were enjoying the lavender fields to have the conversation. George was estatic to hear what Ricky was planning and he happily accepted him into the family. Ricky also wanted the blessing of Silvia’s mom, Minerva. He decided to have talk to her on Christmas Eve while Silvia was distracted setting up for dinner. Minerva was suprised by what Ricky shared, and broke into tears with happiness. Now that he had the blessing of both of Silvia’s parents, Ricky just had to find the right moment. After a 12 hours flight, Ricky and Silvia landed in Japan on 12/29/2023. Ricky had planned to pop the question at midnight on New Years. 15 minutes before midnight Ricky tried to convince Silvia to return to courtyard they had been earlier to go take “a picture” under the trees decorated with Christmas lights. Silvia was not very interested, and instead they received the New Year with drinks and watching the Yokohama fireworks. Plan A was unsuccessful, so Ricky had to come up with a different plan; he decided he would propose on their trip to Disney Sea in Tokyo. The whole day Ricky was nervous and acting weird in front of Silvia. Ricky’s plan was to ask Silvia to marry him at the Disney Sea entrance in front of the water fountains. As the day progressed Ricky kept playing with the ring in his pocket and moving it between pockets, everytime Silvia tried to put her cold hands in his pockets. There were even a few times he took the ring out of his pocket and Silvia almost saw the ring. The sun was setting and Silvia asked a lady to take a picture of them in front of the Disney Sea Harbor. After the picture was taken Silvia was ready to get her phone back, but Ricky asked for one more picture. Silvia was suprised to hear Ricky wanted another picture, but was even more suprised when she turned around and Ricky was on one knee. With ring in hand he asked Silvia to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together. Silvia’s first reaction was “Are you fucking serious?!?” followed by a laugh attack, leading Ricky say “it’s ok if you want to think about it”. But after what felt like 5 minutes of her laughing, she said YES!!!
