I bet you’re looking at these two lovebirds, thinking “oh they are so in love. Those two beautiful people must have fallen for one another the moment they first laid eyes upon each other.” Well, like any beautiful story, things were a little more complicated than that. This is a love story that begins with a wonderful friendship, and changes with two words: Soft. No. Julie Thompson and Dane Silber met through the academic fraternity Phi Sigma Pi at the University of Maryland in College Park, after living most of their lives within ten minutes of one another (no, seriously - they were born literally two weeks apart). They stayed close after college, and Dane began to develop feelings for Julie. He asked her on a date at the urging of literally everyone, and Julie stunned the world with two simple, softly-spoken words: Soft. No. Well, I think we all know what happened next. After a couple years, Julie realized that she had made the worst mistake of her life and they have been happily together ever since. They currently live with their two beautiful and somehow brilliant cats, Chloe and Beefaroni [Editor's Note: her name is Sasha.], in Washington, DC.
“Dane, that woman you’re planning to marry is a piece of work, I’ll tell you what!” Laurie Thompson’s words of warning rang in Dane’s ears as he sojourned out to the park for the seventh time that evening, in hopes of asking for Julie’s hand in marriage. Months of hard work. Careful hours of planning. Covert meetings with friends in the dark of night to coordinate the single greatest proposal of all time. But Dane had forgotten one crucial variable in his formulae: Julie never turned down a free drink. While Julie drank and reveled in the glory of her stylish new haircut (which everyone agrees made her look great), Dane, Spencer, Eddy, and Jeremy calibrated and recalibrated plans, surveying the terroir of the park and listening to its secrets. In the time it took Julie to house several [Editor's Note: it was two.] margaritas, they had found ~*the spot*~. Dane rehearsed. Julie showed up. He forgot everything and sputtered out a proposal. She said yes.
