Once upon a time, a veteran lifeguard took her lunch break at a local Mexican restaurant and locked eyes with the chef there. They spent the next two years flirting with each other, but alas, no moves were made from either party. Until one day, the lifeguard (or the chef, depending on who you talk to) asked the other on a post-shift date next door to the Mexican restaurant at in infamous Porter & Pig. On this date, there was much questioning done by the Lifeguard’s bodyguards Kevin & Courtney to the Chef, there were tequila shots poured by the voted “Best Bartender in Beaufort County” Rett, there was dancing, and fireworks between the two. They haven’t left each other’s side since that fateful evening in November.
After a few years of living together, the young couple adopted a puppy Rottweiler named Chop. Chop was this couple’s whole world, he loved waking them up slightly too early in the morning and being at their side every day. Together they experienced poker nights with his many uncles, frolicking in the creek behind his grandparents house, and many vacation car rides in Asheville with the windows down listening to his favorite Tom Petty song “Wildflowers”. Chop unexpectedly passed away at the young age of two and it broke his parents’ hearts. They spread his ashes in his favorite creek in Bluffton, and in a valley in his favorite second home Asheville. Several months later, Rebecca and Silas returned to that valley with their friends Jackson & Emma and their brand new Rottweiler puppy “Rip”. On that cloudy day, they sat in that valley and reminisced. As Rebecca looked off into the distance, the familiar Tom Petty song began playing, and as she turned around, Silas was on a knee, very shakily holding a ring with his late grandmother’s wedding diamond imposed inside. She said “yes” through tears and many celebrations followed.
