The happy couple met while swiping through profiles during a worldwide pandemic. After texting and talking on the phone, they both felt the chemistry. It was a gift of God that James was working around Raleigh so that they could meet in person. James says that when he first saw Sam, his mind went blank. Over the course of the night, Sam fell in love with James' sense of humor and ability to hold a conversation. Since that moment, the two became inseparable. Even despite the long distance they found ways to talk to each other and see each other almost every weekend.

It was just a normal Friday, or at least that is what Sam thought. It was the afternoon, and she was working on her lessons for the next week at school. Her friend and director, Julianna had requested to meet with her to talk about some recent observations. However, this was all part of the plan that James had so carefully crafted with Julianna. While Sam was in the meeting, James had snuck in the back door and with the help of the assistant teachers, organized Sam's students to hold signs that said, "Will you marry me?" Meanwhile, Sam thought that she was in a legit meeting and was trying to solve the world problems. Julianna casually rushed out of the meeting, trying to keep the plan on schedule. Sam went back to the work room to have the daily fight with the sassy printer. Looking back she recalls Julianna trying to help her print things to speed up the process only to leave for 30 second and rushing back in to say, "Sam, the kids need you. They are all out of control." Sam mumbled under her breath, "I just want to go home." When Sam reached the classroom and opened the door, she saw her students all lined up and holding signs that said, "Will you marry me?" and James around the corner. The tears began to flow as James got down on one knee and asked the question. It was the best proposal that Sam could have dreamed of. After celebrating with the students (although they were a little confused on what life event they were celebrating..) Sam and James went out for dinner to get steaks and tasted wedding cake for desert. It was the best day of their lives!
