In early 2020, both Dylan and Sierra felt called to apply to Life.Church for full time internships. They knew that God would do miraculous things through that calling, but the last thing they expected was to meet each other. After the introductory interview dinner in March, a group of interview candidates went to Pop's Soda Shop to hang out and decompress before interviews. The two of them gravitated to each other naturally and spent most of the evening together. They dove into their life goals, mutual passion for the foster care system, and Sierra even gave Dylan some interview advice. Her advise must have worked, because both Dylan and Sierra were offered full time internship positions! Sierra was placed at the Overland Park campus, while Dylan was moved to Oklahoma City to work at the Broadway & Britton campus. The first week of April Dylan and Sierra were in the midst of their onboarding process to the staff team at Life.Church. By complete coincidence, Dylan and Sierra's laptops were swapped prior to being mailed. This started a string of conversations while they coordinated with the IT department to reconfigure their passwords. After a few video calls, Dylan shot his shot by asking Sierra to virtual coffee. Sierra, much to his surprise, accepted his invitation! That one virtual coffee turned into daily video calls for 6 weeks. In mid-May, Sierra drove to Oklahoma City to see Dylan for the first time in person since their interview event. They went on their first date at Ted's for tacos and Dylan officially asked if she would be his girlfriend. Over the next few months, Dylan and Sierra drove back and forth from KC to Oklahoma to see each other. And the rest is history!
For approximately 2 months, Dylan was in cahoots with many of Sierra's friends and coworkers to plan the perfect surprise proposal! She arrived at work on a seemingly normal Thursday morning and stepped into an Operations Team brainstorming meeting. After one hour of diving deep into brainstorming, she was asked to step into the auditorium to help move stairs to set up for an event at the church. When she opened the auditorium doors, she immediately locked eyes with Dylan who was on stage, surrounded by a rose pedal heart! He had spent several hours piecing together a video of their favorite moments, both video and photos, to play as she walked up to the stage. At the end of the video, Dylan could barely muster up the words to express his love. He got down on one knee and asked the question, "Will you marry me?" She said yes! Now they are so excited for you to join them for the next step in their love story.
Following the proposal on November 5th, 2020, Dylan and Sierra were over the moon excited. They started planning their wedding, sent out invites to their friends and family, and began planning their future. Little did they know things would happen way sooner than anticipated. Upon Dylan's return to Oklahoma for work, he was informed that he was being released from his job as a youth pastor due to COVID-19. As Dylan and Sierra were navigating this extremely hard season, there were two things they were certain of. 1) God is good and he always provides. 2) They loved each other dearly and wanted to spend their lives together. They started seeking wise counsel from the closest people in their lives and made the decision to tie the knot sooner than expected. Sierra's amazing coworkers at Life.Church Overland Park jumped into action and created an amazing space for their ceremony to be held at the church. Danny Duran, Sierra's boss and amazing campus pastor, held an intimate and very personal ceremony on a rainy Saturday morning. It was not what they would ever have expected, but it was absolutely perfect!
