Josh was working as a cook at Balfour Senior Living at the lodge. It was my first day as a server's assistant and I was being introduced to all my new serving coworkers. I saw this tall guy from behind the line. His face was blocked by the window but I could see his muscles and I could hear his deep laughter. He later came and introduced himself. I instantly felt something when I met this loud, large, beautiful man but tried to ignore this weird tingle in my stomach. As the months went on, he worked at the lodge and I worked at the residences. He would work in my building from time to time so I would take multiple unnecessary trips to the back of the kitchen just to see him. He eventually started to talk to me and pretty soon I noticed that he was funny, kind, smart, annoying and above all, the best whistler I've ever heard. After about six months of working at Balfour I allowed myself to hang out with Josh outside of work. We went to a skate park at night where I fell into a skate area and he lifted me out, we went to NCAR and listened to music and talked and watched the lights of Boulder. I think that's when I knew this wasn't just some guy and that I had experienced the most real connection ever in my life. After a rocky start, our first date at the Cheesecake factory was memorable to say the least. Josh went to pour a little salt on his meal and the cap fell off. He had a mound of salt on his fish. I maintained strong eye contact while reaching over and delicately began to wipe the salt all over his food, further ruining his meal, maintaining eye contact the entire time. Who knows what was going through my head. We had a good laugh about it. Later that night Josh made a comment about me being his girlfriend. I corrected him that he had not asked me yet. He shyly asked me, "will you be my girlfriend?". When I first met Josh I had no idea what kind of life change I was in for. I just followed the weird feeling in my stomach. I now know that I was simply following my heart.
Josh works on Saturday mornings. He drove me home while I protested about not having my car for the day. He said I had an hour to get ready and to bring extra clothes. I was so confused, he was supposed to be at work in 15 minutes. He told me he had the day off and that was were going to have a "treat yourself" day. We drove to Boulder and went to a nice breakfast restaurant. After breakfast I thanked him for the nice surprise. He said that wasn't the surprise, he was just hungry. We headed toward Estes. I had no idea the entire time where we were going or why. Josh said we had a dinner reservation at 5. We arrived in Estes, walked the shops and caught half a movie. We went for drinks at the Stanley Hotel. As we walked out Josh stopped at the front desk and said his last name. I was so confused, why was he telling them his name? As he handed them his credit card I understood this was yet another surprise. I was giddy from this deception that I could barely contain myself. We headed to our fancy cabin. I thought I was dreaming. I said we should skip the reservation and make a nice dinner in our cabin. I sat in the car ready to head to the store for dinner supplies and Josh reaches into the trunk where he already packed everything needed for a nice romantic dinner. My smile was so big my face started to hurt. Josh started to make us a nice dinner. Everything was in the oven so I started opening my Christmas gifts he brought. I saw Josh move behind me but I focused on opening my gift. He poked me and when I turned around he was on one knee and asked, "will you marry me?". It was so surreal. I knew that I wanted to marry Josh for a long time but was not expecting any of this. I of course said yes and immediately fell onto him for a big bear hug. We ate dinner and snuggled by the fire. It was the most romantic and amazing day of my life. Josh is the kind of person that can put others before himself and imagine what would make them happy. He is one of a kind.
