Niagara Falls, Goat Island, and the Three Sisters
If you remember to bring your passport with you, then you can walk over the nearby rainbow bridge to see the falls from the Canadian side (arguably the better view of the falls). While on the American side, make sure to walk to goat island and the three sisters islands for the best views. There are also plentiful nature trails along the rapids and the upper falls. Don't forget to bring a jacket! The mist off the falls can get cold and, even though it is April, we can't promise it won't be icy.
Maid of The Mist Cruise
If you have a little bit of extra time and want an unbeatable view of the falls, consider taking a cruise on the maid of the mist. Bring a set of spare clothes for afterwards. You will get wet......even with the poncho....
Niagara-on-the-Lake
For those of you with a passport and extra time, the nearby Canadian town of Niagara on the Lake is worth the drive. Full of cute shops and English bakeries, Niagara on the Lake is also great spot to grab a bottle of wine from one of the many Niagara Region wineries. Budget at least a few hours to wander in and out of storefronts and make it down to the public park by the river.
Canalside
Canalside is THE place to be in downtown Buffalo. Check the calendar for a rotating list of outdoor events, food trucks, and artists or take a tour of the USS Little Rock in the nearby Buffalo and Erie County Naval Park.
Buffalo AKG Art Museum
The newly renovated Albright Knox Art Gallery is truly the talk of the town. Stop by the mirror room and save some extra time to cross the street and explore the trails around the lake in Delaware Park.
Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens
We both absolutely love the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. Very kid friendly and a nice spot to warm up from the chill April weather.
Elmwood Avenue
The Elmwood Village is a great spot to pop in and out of cute cafes and local shops. Check out the local bookshop and coffee house, Talking Leaves, or some of the many art studios along the main drag.
Anchor Bar
Visit the original Anchor Bar location where chicken wings were invented. Ignore anyone who tells you that Duff's is better.
Amy's Place
For those who don't mind a bit of a dive, Amy's Place is a must visit. The mismatch silverware and mugs are an aesthetic we swear. Helen's favorite spot for breakfast or vegetarian fare.
