Ryan and I met a little more than three years ago at a mutual friend's writer's round. He was being set up with someone else at the time, but talked to me first. We connected immediately, and I assumed he had a girlfriend, so I was completely myself thinking he wasn't even available. We hung out a few times and exchanged phone numbers and he went on tour and we continued hanging out when he came home. I knew I was going to love him almost immediately, and anyone who knows him, understands why. This past October, my cousin (and bridesmaid) Skylar was in Nashville celebrating her bachelorette party. We decided to go to dinner and pre-game at Ryan's before going out on Broadway. She was acting uptight all night and nothing was going according to our plan. Dinner was almost a two hour wait so we had to go somewhere else...the rain never stopped...I lost my phone briefly...and I thought Skylar was having a miserable time. We finally show up to Ryan's and it's pitch black in his house. The second I turned on the light, his living room was full of my friends and family (even from Indiana!) who shouted Happy Birthday! Skylar and Ryan had planned a surprise 30th birthday party for me, but Ryan was nowhere in sight. Skylar told me there was one more surprise outside. I walked out and saw his porch decorated with lights, candles and a trellis filled with sunflowers that I later found out he built. He bent down on his knee (I most definitely blacked out here) and he asked me to be his forever. I cried and told him a million times yes. I could relive this night the rest of my life. I am so excited for our future together and cannot wait to share our day with you!
