So, you all probably remember one of the biggest headlines of 2021—the Capitol riot. Well… believe it or not, that’s how our story began. Both Tony and I were serving in the Delaware National Guard and were deployed to Washington, D.C. to assist during that tragic and historic time. What we thought would be a short mission turned into six months—and somewhere around the three-month mark, we met. Every morning at 4 a.m., just as I was heading downstairs to start my shift, I’d see this man—Tony—stepping outside the hotel for a smoke. And while I was watching him, turns out… he was watching me too. As fate would have it, we discovered we had a mutual friend. So naturally, I asked about him. One conversation led to another, and we started talking. What began as casual chats and friendship slowly grew into something much deeper. By the time the mission ended, it was clear: this wasn’t something we wanted to leave behind in D.C. Once we returned home, we kept in touch, planned dates and weekends together—and from there, we became inseparable.
