Common Questions

The Wedding Website of Shug Oyegunle and MaKayla Burchette
Question

Why the change in plans?

Answer

After visiting the resort in Cancun, we realized it didn’t meet the experience we hoped to give our guests. Rather than ask everyone to travel somewhere we weren’t confident in, we decided to bring the celebration home and create a day that everyone can truly enjoy with us. We also feel like it was a God send that we canceled ahead of time. With everything going on in Mexico right now, the safety of our loved ones is the most important!

Question

What style of attire?

Answer

For our wedding, the photo at the top of the page sets the tone for attire. Black is the required color, and we recommend choosing an outfit that allows you to move and dance comfortably. Ladies, consider bringing a pair of comfortable shoes to change into for the reception if you'll be wearing heels during the ceremony. Gentlemen are also welcome to pack an alternative pair of shoes for added comfort.

Question

What should I expect at the reception?

Answer

Our reception will be more of a big celebration than a traditional formal dinner and dancing. We want everyone to roam the property, enjoy activities, dance when your song comes on, relax by the fire pits and make s’mores, play some putt-putt, bounce in the bouncy house, eat, drink, and more. Since our family and friends rarely get to spend time together, we don’t want anyone stuck at a table. We hope this day will be fun and meaningful, helping new connections form and old bonds grow stronger. We’re so excited to bring our families together through this union and can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!

Question

Where is the wedding located?

Answer

Our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour will be held at a beautiful venue, with the reception continuing at the lodge located on the same picturesque property.

Question

If traveling, what airport should I fly into?

Answer

The closest airport is Will Rogers World Airport (OKC), located about 20 minutes from the venue. Rental cars and rideshares are available at the airport.

Question

If traveling, when should I fly into Oklahoma

Answer

We recommend flying in on Friday, October 16, 2026, so you have time to settle in and relax before the celebration on Saturday. But it is not a requirement.

Question

When is the RSVP deadline?

Answer

Please RSVP by August 1, 2026 so we can finalize food and drinks for everyone.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

We ask that all guests wear all black. Our celebration will have a relaxed garden party vibe. Ladies are more than welcome to wear heels to the ceremony and cocktail hour, but we recommend you bring a change of shoes for the reception. Men can also bring a more comfortable pair. We want everyone to feel comfortable as they move around the property, dance, and enjoy the outdoor activities.

Question

Can I bring kids?

Answer

Due to limited seating, we kindly request that you do NOT bring kids! We do not want disruptions during the ceremony or reception. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, including parents, can fully enjoy our celebration. As a reminder, there is water and open flames on the very open property, so it would not create the safest environment for children. If you must bring your child, please talk to the bride and groom for approval and accommodations!

Question

Will there be food?

Answer

Yes, of course! We just ask that you eat the food you order! Not liking something is one thing... being wasteful is another. Shug is a food lover, and Makayla is picky, so we get it, but just be respectful.

Question

Is there parking?

Answer

Yes, the venue offers a paved parking lot with space for 55 cars located right next to the property. For additional parking, there is an overflow lot with a loose gravel surface a short distance away. To secure the most convenient parking and minimize walking, we recommend arriving early. Rest assured, there is ample parking available for all guests.

Question

What’s the weather like in October in Oklahoma

Answer

October in Oklahoma is usually mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures averaging 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit and cooler evenings around 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. BUT Oklahoma is unpredictable. We are praying the day is good to us and great for the outdoor activities. If you want to bring a nice extra layer, feel free. A cardigan could be a nice touch.

Question

What hotels are near by?

Answer

We suggest staying downtown: Aloft Downtown OKC is located at 209 N Walnut Ave Oklahoma City, OK 73104 United States and is about a 28-minute drive to Pryor Place. AC Hotel Downtown is located at 411 E Sheridan Ave Oklahoma City, OK 73104 United States and is about a 28-minute drive to Pryor Place. If you want a more luxurious stay, check out the Fordson Hotel located at 900 W Main St Oklahoma City, OK 73106 United States. It is about a 25-minute drive to Pryor Place. These are just suggestions, of course. Feel free to book where you are comfortable!
