Trip Suggestions

Morocco is full of incredible cities and cultural experiences that go beyond the wedding in Rabat. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a food lover, or someone who enjoys exploring vibrant markets and beautiful landscapes, there’s so much to see. To help you make the most of your trip, we’ve put together a few suggestions for exploring Morocco outside of Rabat. Note: Most of you will likely fly into Casablanca, but getting around from city to city is super easy. Morocco’s train system is modern, reliable, and connects major cities like Rabat, Marrakech, Fes, and Casablanca. Whether you’re staying for a week or longer, here are a few options to inspire your travel plans.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco

Marrakech is one of Morocco’s most vibrant cities, known for its bustling souks, stunning palaces, and colorful gardens. A visit here offers a true taste of Morocco’s rich culture and lively atmosphere. You’ll need about 2-3 days to explore the highlights, including the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, Majorelle Garden, Bahia Palace, and Koutoubia Mosque. To get there, simply hop on a train from Rabat (about 3.5 hours). You can easily check out Marrakech either before or after the wedding.

Fes

Fes, Fez-Meknès, Morocco

Fes is a city steeped in history, offering a more traditional and cultural experience. Known for its ancient medina, one of the largest in the world, Fes is ideal for those interested in Morocco’s rich history. Spend 2 days exploring highlights like the Bou Inania Madrasa, Chouara Tannery, and Al-Qarawiyyin University. The train from Rabat takes about 2.5 hours, making it a quick and easy journey. Whether before or after the wedding, Fes will provide an unforgettable dive into Morocco’s past.

Casablanca

Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, Morocco

While most guests will arrive in Casablanca, it’s worth spending a day or two exploring this modern city. Known for the stunning Hassan II Mosque and its cosmopolitan feel, Casablanca offers a blend of modernity and tradition. You can easily get to Rabat in just one hour by train. If you're arriving early, it’s a great starting point before heading to other destinations or for a quick stop on your way out.

Suggested Journey: Fes First

After landing in Casablanca (or any other airport), take the train to Fes (a 2.5-hour ride). Spend 2-3 days in Fes exploring the medina, Al-Qarawiyyin University, and Chouara Tannery. After enjoying Fes, take a train to Rabat (also about 2.5 hours) to arrive in time for the wedding festivities from December 26-28. Once the wedding is over, hop on a train to Marrakech (a 3.5-hour ride) to experience the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square, Majorelle Garden, and Bahia Palace. After spending 2-3 days in Marrakech, you can easily take a train back to Casablanca (3 hours) or fly out directly from Marrakech.

Suggested Journey: Marrakech First

Start your trip by landing in Casablanca (or any other airport) and take the train to Marrakech (about 3.5 hours). Spend 2-3 days exploring the lively city, including Jemaa el-Fnaa, Majorelle Garden, and Bahia Palace. Marrakech’s vibrant atmosphere offers a mix of historical sights and modern Moroccan culture. After your stay in Marrakech, take the train to Rabat (another 3.5-hour ride) for the wedding festivities from December 26-28. After the wedding, head to Fes (a 2.5-hour train ride) for 2-3 days to explore its ancient medina, Al-Qarawiyyin University, and the famous tanneries. You can fly home from Fes, take the train back to Casablanca, or even return to Marrakech if you'd like to extend your journey.

Suggested Journey: Rabat & Beyond

For those arriving in Rabat first (either via Casablanca or directly into Rabat), your journey starts with settling into Morocco’s charming capital. Spend a few days exploring Rabat’s medina, Kasbah des Oudaias, Hassan Tower, and modern cafes before the wedding festivities from December 26-28. After the wedding, take the train to Marrakech (3.5 hours) to enjoy its vibrant markets, palaces, and gardens. If time permits, head to Fes (2.5-hour train ride from Rabat) to discover its ancient medina and cultural landmarks. Other cities worth considering for an extended trip include Chefchaouen, known for its stunning blue streets, and Essaouira, a coastal town famous for its laid-back vibe and fresh seafood. Morocco’s train system makes it easy to explore multiple cities during your stay.
